I just washed my car at the car wash and blew my emblem apart. The clear piece landed on the ground and the other part under the clear piece is still on the car............LOOKS LIKE CRAP. are they just held on with 2 sided tape. I want to replace this as soon as I can. Or are they held on with 2 small bolts.

wow, what car wash did you go to?

I know they do have 3m covers for those...that is if it's still kinda smooth to put on the cover.

I THINK they are only tape- I know other ford emblems on trucks are.

Ehhhh ... I dunno. The spot where the Ford oval on the trunk of Frankenstang's '86 GT used to be has a few little holes where it looks like they either pushed on or were kinda riveted on. I know the oval on my Notch is held on there with something besides tape, because I tried to delete it when I repainted it a couple of years back and couldn't get the thing off without risking its destruction - the LX badge was just slapped on there from the factory with double-sided tape, like the 5.0 badges. The same deal applies to all Foxes - hatches, notches, and 'verts.

My guess for the reason of different attachments is that not all Foxes are LX's or 5.0's, but ALL of them have the Ford oval on them from the factory.

Only thing I can suggest is to either try sticking the clear part back on with some 3M Emblem Adhesive glue, or figure out a way to cleanly and safely remove that thing without destroying the finish in the process.

On a side note ... hey, Frankenstang. Y'know how you said the hatch on your Capri is supposed to be the original? I'm wondering again if they didn't swap that hatch from a 'Stang, also, because 1. the glass on a Capri hatch is WAY different, and 2. that Ford oval is pressed on. So, like, unless your Ex drilled the holes and riveted on the Ford oval (or just slapped it on with glue or something) and/or the Capri glass uses the same outer hatch frame as the Mustang glass, then the hatch probably isn't 100% original, after all ... which would also explain the sloppy hinges on top. Sorry to sidetrack, just a thought that occurred to me...

I just glued the cover back on the emblem for now. I think it was already been glued on before cause it looked old and faded. I will get a nice looking one to put on there later.

Hmm, I wonder if that's one of those whacky things about Fords. My 87 has had the badge removed at some point, and I like the way it looks so was thinking of putting one on. At the local junkers the other day there was an 88LX 5.0L hatch, and I wanted to see if they were stuck with adhesive or were plugged onto the hatch through holes. I pulled the badge off and there were two holes drilled into the hatch. The badge had plugs on it for the holes as well as adhesive

Maybe the drilled holes and posts are just so they can be sure it gets stuck on there straight...?

Roland, sorry to hear about your emblem. Sucks when crap happens like that. New ones are about $20.00.
The emblem is mounted with 3m double sided emblem tape. It can be removed with a little wd-40 , hair dryer and a credit card ( or like item).

Here are some pics of when I replaced mine. The holes are only there for alignment.
