I've got a Ford racing boss 302 block and I'm havin issues with my distriputor moving. I'm running a stock 302 distributor from my 1989 gt. I would tighten the hold down and with in a few days of driving it will have retarded itself. I've since ground down the bottom of the hold down to try and get more clamping force but haven't driven much since i did this. Anyone else have any issues like this??

That makes no sense at all unless the gear at the bottom of the dizzy is moving. What I mean is that it's changing it's clock position in relation the rotor.

So, is the housing itself moving?

Try sandwiching a small lock washer between the hold down arm and the contact surface on the dizzy. Tighten it snug and include some blue locktight on the bolt threads. If the housing moves after that, I dunno what to tell ya other than, that must be one tight dizzy.

If it cures the problem, get another hold down arm or modify your current to get more downward bite when the bolt is tight.

Sorry to use your thread, but is a boss 302 block pretty straight forward. I mean id like to get a Boss 302 block have it bored .030 and use all my internals i already have in my 331 DSS 302 bock. I could see the main girdle not working but everything swap right over?

kdubs... from what I understand (I've not done one), they cost a little more to machine than say, a Dart Sportsman. The require a little more cleanup and there was something about the machinework for the crank and rods that was more costly than with the sportsman. Other than that though... everything you have is a direct swap. The main girdle, you wouldn't wanna to use anyway. Trade it for a windage tray. hehe

Yea, the Boss block does not use nor does it need a girdle. Those blocks support some serious power, no band aids needed.

I can't figure out the dizzy thing. That's crazy. There is no reason anything should be putting enough load on it to rotate it, especially if you can't turn it with your hand.

Yeah everything swapped over real nice. I bought it right when they first came out a couple years back so I don't remember anything unusual about the machining but then again the shop that did the work really wanted to see one so he sold in to me for like 1800 completely machined.
But Back to my issue the only thing i can think of is that where the disributor sits is machined down further and with a factory 302 hold down there isn't enough clamping force. I hope grinding if down has fixed it but haven't had a chance to test it out much yet.
