I went to Mcford.com to check out their tune-up kit, which they are selling right now for $99.00. This kit comes with wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, pcv, and spark plugs. Well I just had my plugs changed about 3 months ago, or roughly 3,000 miles ago. My question is do you still think it will be worth it to purchase the kit anyways, seeing how it is a good deal and I could really use the other parts. Thanks for any advice.

Check out www.thefordsource.com Last year I got the same kit and it was $79.00. They don't change there prices that often so check them out..

www.downsford.com sells them for about 80 also...

Does anyone no what exactly a ford dealership does when they perform a tune-up. Do they do the plugs only, or other stuff?

I think they have different tuneups. I remember spending 300 bucks on a tuneup at the Honda dealer 4 years ago .

The most basic one is just plugs i believe.

Well I spent a little over $200 on I guess what was just to get my plugs changed. It did not really say on the invoice.

Must have been more than plugs. I know dealers usually charge you up the ass for even the smallest service (bastards), but if they charged you 200 bucks, chances are, they did more than just plugs. Probably a full tune up (cap, rotor, etc...).I had them change the plugs on the 94 two years ago and it was anywhere from 65-80 bucks (don't really remember), and nowhere near 200.

I just got through dealing with Ford and happened to ask them what they would charge for a Full Tune-up on a 94 GT (wires, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and PCV). They quoted $450.00!!!!!!!!! Worse yet, my cats went bad and Ford said I'd need a new H-pipe and they quoted $2,400.00! It should be against the law to screw people over that bad.

I think there basic tune-up only includes plugs and then a "middle" grade tune-up that includes all part minus wires. The Full tune-up includes the wires. However, different dealers may offer different things. No matter what, don't let a Ford dealer do the work!

If you must, find a local "non-chain" muffler shop or other mechanic to do the work. Once you've provided the parts, you shouldn't have to pay more than $70 for the labor.

The dealership really does pull your pants down and rape you!!! Well if they did everything else (cap, rotor, pcv, fuel filter, and wires) I would think it would say on the invoice, and I do not remember it saying any of that. I will have to check again.

I got a quote for a full tune up, coolant system flush, and tranny fluid replacement (5-speed) for about $380. It was for the 87K mile service or something. They keep calling me about it every month or so, but the car's in storage for the winter so it's not gettin' run. I plan on doing the tune up myself and I know some ppl who can help with the coolant system. Does a 5 speed need to have the fluid replaced around 90K miles?
