Hey guys, need some opinions
I'm rebuilding due to a comp cams mishap right now, and as you can see, the engine's pretty much fully modded in N/A form right now.
NOW, I'm thinking about going w/ the stock hyperutectic pistons right now (yes, you can throw crap at me), for the sake that it will in all likelihood run fine and reliably.
Okay, so there's that inkiling that tells me to go w/ low compression forged pistons and rods, just in case i ever get the urge to supercharge it. The difference here is about 1000 bucks, and i've already stretched my wallet too far.
Also, i kinda like the thought of staying N/A just because I wouldn't break so much stuff and i don't want to push the rings out of the engine every 50k miles. but dang, putting a supercharger on this thing would be soooo fun.
Anyways, just wondering what you guys think i should go with, some input please!
Anyone had trouble with forged pistons being noisy, or anything else? Pros, Cons...
I like that hyperutectic don't expand so much so that you can run tighter piston-bore clearances, thus increasing engine longevity and making a quieter engine. but don't know how close to reliable forged are as hyperutectic.
Once you'd be hitting the level i'd be at with a SC(probably around 450 hp), does everything start breaking? I wouldn't be launching w/ slicks or anything, and i like to baby my car, but the fact that it'd be a daily driver w/ trips home from college somewhat frequently makes me wonder what to do.
Thanks guys!
Lance
