found a place WILLING to align my car, but shims on a 69&TCP????

Alright, I found a place that is gonna align my Stang, it has a newly in stalled TCP power rack and pinion in it. 2 places so far have turned it away. Booth dual tone and beeline, both good shops with good reputations, so what’s up?

The place that Johns Mustangs suggests is Sam’s alignment shop. Ok cool, I call and talk to the guy; he's talking about using shims on the uppers like 65-66s. Does this guy know anything? Is it because the lowers have no cam? i thought the lower were still adjustable, because the 3 positions on the eccentric lower arm plates. Help!

My camber is off as well and the local shops are telling me they have to shim the uppers as well. I'd like an answer to this question myself...

They either don't know WTF they are doing, or the upper bushings are shot or the towers have flexed and moved.

he hasen't even seen the car, so he has no idea of its condition. this is how he says he adjusts camber on all tcp installed 67-70 mustangs.

maybe he is thinking it has TCP control arms or something. but i guess it is possible to have to use shims if they can't the camber right with the eccentrics being eliminated, it is still adjustable but not as much as it would be with eccentrics

Is this a common problem with the TCP rack conversion??? I'm assuming you have stock control arms but are using the TCP rack, right? Does the rack eliminate the stock eccentric, or are you using Pro-motorsports eccentric eliminator kit? If it's the Pro-m kit, mine came with special instructions for doing the alignment adjustments. I just took the car to a local place with the instructions and they aligned it no problem. Why does the TCP rack effect normal camber adjustment?

it does come with a 3 hole eccentric eliminator. 2 plates on each side and a bolt, is that like the pro-m setup? plus the inner bracket mounts in the lower control arm rear mounting location, bolted to the back of it. the brackets are slotted and allow for the additional movement.

Even though these guys are in the Bay Area, you should try sending an email to Custom Alignment. Lots of racers as well as exotic owners take their cars here. They also used to sell and install the TCP gear. I would hold their recommendation in high regard as they really know what they're doing over there.

I don't know if this is too far north for you (or maybe you could just contact them and pick their brain) but Glenn's Alignment does alot of Mustangs, SHelby club members, Cobra's, etc. The did my car both times. They even loaned me their aluminum template for the Shelby drop. Good guys. Ask to talk to alignment Dan (IIRC there are 2 Dans there).

Yep, that is similar to the Pro-m kit, so I don't know... Have you contacted TCP? Maybe they've got some insight.
