Found crack today

Today i found a crack in my wonderful factory plastic intake. It was hidden but the thermostat housing. Cracked right on the lip where the thermostat sits at so that it wasn't a bad leak, just causing it to get past the rubber o-ring. But my real question is, I have been having problems with a miss in my engine. Sometimes i would do it all the time other times it was sporatic and only while on the throttle. Some mornings it would run like a charm. Other times it would run fine till i drove a ways. Do you guys think this could be caused by the coolant leak. I never let it get really low or the car run hot, but it was spraying on the drivers side coil pack and filling the front few spark plug holes with fluid as well. Please give me some opinions on what you guys have experienced in the past.

I don't have an answer for you Jake. I have a question for you. What year is your car and how many miles are on it? I just bought a 97 with 53,000 miles. I almost want to go to a dealer and see if he can run the vin and tell me if the intake has been replace already. Can anyone tell me about how many miles these intakes explode or is it random?
 
Sounds like the miss could be the water/coolant causing intermitant shorts in the ignition system based on where you say it has been spraying.
I have a 1996 with the original manifold intact...for now. But I have heard all the horror stories and I suppose its just a matter of time before mine goes. Hopefully I'll have my PI heads completely ported and installed with PI intake before it happens. Good luck.
 
My car has 94k miles on it. I don't know if the intake has been replaced before, but i know the guy that owned it before me and he never mentioned anything of it. BTW it will be a week that i owned this thing thursday. My problems started saturday, just two days after owning it. I'm starting to wonder if this guy found the problem and pawned the car off on me. Well i guess that's just my luck. I've got a PI intake and head swap planned. Does anyone know if i will be able to use my stock hood after putting on PI heads and Intake? I just read one thread that mentioned something about clearance problems b/c of the 1/2" thick adapter plates.

can you see & get at the leak? they make some epoxy's that when done right are like steel....if you could drain & clean with something like a dremel and then acetone used real carefull...you may be able to seal it....years back a buddy had a cracked Caddy Seville with a aluminium manifold ...he used a dremel , then acetone and then epoxy....he drove it another 6 years...acetone will eat anything plastic to you muct be real carefull , like using a Q-tip...... it may cost about $15 for good epoxy ....its worth a shot...good luck....look on e-bay & parts stores for a bullitt manifold there aluminium..I never thought plastic had any place on a car motor....maybe a Glock but not a engine...................................
 
i made a temporary patch job with some epoxy and rtv. I'm only hoping to get a week or so out of it. Just enough time to get a new intake in and get it installed. I've yet to try the patch job out b/c i decided to let it cure overnight. I'll check it out and report back.
 
Go for the PI intake swap. Alot of people have used RTV to get the ports to seal up, but I've had bad luck using it. Had I known I would have gotten the Livenios kit. A little pricey, but since Ford wants 583 for a replacement manifold, it's worth it. They're claiming 35rwhp :rolleyes: from their kit.

Gene Evans Ford only wants $190 for a new intake manifold.

I had my intake replaced because it was defective... The only problem is that Ford would NOT fix it for free under the "replace contract" because it happened 1 full week after my 7 year agreement expired. F***YOU FORD... Thanks for your sympathy. You should have done a full recall! Very upset.

...OK, I'm calm now.

I'm also having problems with an engine miss-fire as well and haven't solved it yet. Mines only at idle so your miss-fire could be different. if your coolant is getting to your plugs, wires and/or coil packs this could be your problem. Replace the manifold and you'll never have to worry about it again... and check your plugs, wires and coil packs to make sure they are OK.

Anyway, You'll know (for the other guy asking) if it's been replaced because the runner on the front is aluminum. (the runner located behind the alternator). BTW/mine was $288.00 with installation- employee price.
