The TFI wiring has no other connector that you can unplug the distributor end from and plug another wiring harness into. It is one piece all the back to the computer. That makes it harder to fix.
There is a solution: the TFI connector is easy to disassemble. The red insert comes out the front side of the connector with the help of a jeweler's screwdriver. The plastic catches that hold the pins in can then be lifted and the pins slide out the rear. Take note of the wire colors and arrangement BEFORE you start. Once the pins are extracted from the connector shell, you can slide heat shrink tubing over the wires with damaged insulation to fix them. Broken wires can be spliced & soldered (don't consider any other method) and then heat shrink tubing can be used to cover the splices. Stagger the splices so that they are not all in one area, but are offset by 1" - 1 1/2". This prevents having a big swollen spot in one place and makes a neater job.
Don't abuse the foil shield that covers the wiring, it keeps the TFI wiring from picking up electrical interference from the spark plugs and spark plug wires. That interference can spook the computer into doing strange things. Some aluminum foil can be used to cover the wires and then wind the bare shield wire around over the foil. The shield wire is grounded back at the computer connector, so you don't need to ground the TFI end of the bare sheild wire.
Using A big piece of heat shrink tubing to cover all the repairs will make the work almost invisible. Some of the wire loom can be purchased to make it all look stock and new.
A word about working with heat shrink tubing: a hot air gun is the best tool to shrink the tubing if you can get access to one. I have one and use it frequently: it's one of my favorite tools. They are not expensive and I have seen the on sale at Harbor Freight (

Anything that uses a flame to provide heat can be tricky to use. It is very easy to burn or char the heat shrink with an open flame, ruining your hard work. Some practice with some junk wiring and spare heat shrink would be a good idea if your heat source is an open flame.
