Word: An aftermarket sunroof will kill your resale value as quickly as an ugly custom paint job.

Early 80s coupes did have a factory sunroof. I believe the last year was 1982. A friend of mine owned an '82 coupe with one. Definitely unique.

But like said before, aftermarket sunroofs can leak and tend to scare buyers away. I won't even look at a car with one.

I had an 82 capri with an aftermarket sunroof and even after I wrecked it the glass didn't leak. If this is a car that your not daily driving and plan on keeping for a while and not worried about resale value then Id look for someone who was good at installing them and get an estimate.

Yes, it'll knock your resale from $4500 all the way down to $4000.

Mine has had an aftermarket sunroof in it since about '95. The best picture I have where you can see it is from when I left the car outside and it got caught in an epic rain storm

I repectfully disagree and point out that I, like Mike above, wouldn't even bother coming to look at this car if it was for sale.

Jesus, look at the water run past the tire in the gutter!

I dont see nuttin wrong with it but, as you can see, if you ever decide to sell you might have some who will pass on it.

To each their own. Most ridiculous reason to pass on a gussied-up 78 fairmont ever.

Just one more way to weaken the roof line into a piece of tin-foil.

If you REALLY want to do it. I say find someone with some talent and have a power roof and the appropriate frame and stiffening installed. The units you see at part store X look like just what they are... Hack Jobs.

You said it. It’s not like we’re driving Ferrari’s here. It’s hard to ruin the value of a car that wasn't worth much in the first place. In my experience, most Fox owners find plenty of other reasons to overcharge you for their 25-year-old bucket in the end anyway. After all...we all know a chrome CAI, a set of 3.73 gears and a windshield banner automatically adds a couple thousand dollars to the asking price, don't we?

For what it's worth, my coupe had an aftermarket sunroof in it when I bought it too. Although i wasn't crazy about it, pickings around here for a car as clean as this one were slim and the previous owner assured me it didn't leak....and it never has.

I also think it give the car a little visual "attitude" when propped up. And any additional air circulation is ok in my book. Especially when you drive a black on black car like I do.

I don't think you did. The only one that said anything about leaking was aar0s.

Leaks are usually the first thing people worry about with something like a sunroof or t-tops, not the structural integrity of the car. What brings it up now? He asked for opinions and I gave mine.

It's the kits with the two piece frames that usually leak. The one piece don't usually.

Leaking isn't a concern I have with them. It's the fact that they look tacked on and tacky. For instance, the one on MFE's car looks like it's about three inches too far back and it's too small for the car. Also, aftermarket sunroofs don't follow the curve of the roof and kill the lines.

I think the biggest thing I have against them is about killing the structural rigidity of the hard top.

I have seen only ONE power moon roof put into a Fox and all I could do was drool. I really appreciated how the frame of that monster was tied into the hard top and how much reinforcement went along with it. I don't remember what the dude spent on it but I remember thinking it was more than I was willing to pay. hehe

Now a power roof would be tits, wonder what that would run now. Wonder if you could run the control somewhere other than on the roof?

A friend has a car with a high-dollar power roof. Again, it doesn't match the contour of the roof properly and looks like what it is: tacked on.

I like this one http://www.ac-mn.com/products/sunroof_900.html but holy crap... Look at the cars in their gallery. That alone is enough to make me think twice about going to that place. LOL
