Fox Speaker Upgrade

I just have a quick question

I have gone through my 87 T-top GT and noticed all these really cheap ass wires running through the car where someone put in the LOL 80 watt amp in the back and a stupid speaker...

I disconnected this speaker and I'm running the fully stock speakers right now....I plan on using the wiring to hook up a nice amp and a pair of 12's in the back ...or maybe not something so extreme

I would like to know what speaker upgrade recommendations ya'll have?

I have the premium sound system with the tweeters in the dash
the speakers in the back are ALOT louder than the speakers in the front....but it's probably because of the cheap old ass head unit in there...

what are the sizes of the speakers?
should I swap out the tweeters?

what is everyones recommedations?

Should be 3-1/2 tweeters, 6-1/2 door, and 5x7/6x8 rear speakers.

I put new door and rear speakers in and didn't bother with the tweeters. I'm pleased. The factory tweeters have crossovers on them so they don't get blown out with low frequency. I hate to say it, but if you're going to go on the cheap, the Wal-Mart brand Dual produces some decent cheap stuff. I would stay away from Sony speakers as they sound like a tin can. I have personally always had really good luck with Pioneer, both in speakers and head unit.

so it's either a 5x7 or a 6x8??

The 5x7 or 6x8 is meaning it depends on the manufacturer of the speaker, either will work. Also depends on top or bottom mount (as with many you can do either) and mounting hole locations. Go the the cructhfield link and put in what you have and it will tell you what will work for each manufacturer.

I also agree about the Sonys have never liked them. Apline, Infinity, Polk hard to go wrong with any of them. There are cheaper ones too, just look at the reviews and see what customers are saying. Crutchfield is a great reference site, although you might check locally, as you can sometimes get a better deal, especially at local sales.
