foxbody 8.8 in a 65 coupe

i have a 8.8 that came from a foxbody... i have been thinking about putting it into my 65. my question is will it fit without narrowing it. i have searched but couldnt find the track width of the 8.8. i know the stock rearend is i believe 57 1/4 for the 65. i am not worried about the mounting brackets because i am in the process of doin a tri- 4 bar and coilover setup so all im worried about is the width clearances, thabnks in advance Nick

Where are you measuring from? From the flange where the brakes bolt up. I have one from a 90 sitting in my garage from my IRS swap that I can measure when I get home if nobody has chimed in already.

Why 8.8? I have one in mine but if your going to 4 link might as well get the 9.

I had one in my previous car- will fit fine, but you need to use an 05+ Mustang wheel offset-

so if i have the inner tubs out and use an 05+ offset could i run an 18x10 without norrowing the rearend?

does anyone know the track width of the 8.8 from axle flange to axle flange

The "track" is 59.25" that includes the thickness of the drums or rotor hub (the face you will mount your wheel to). Stock first gen was 57.25", so you are 1" wider on each side.

I've always read that the 65-66s had the least amount of space under the fenders. I don't think you'll fit a 18 X 10 wheel without a lot of cutting.

If its 2" wider then I'd have it narrowed and get some axles myself. Old cars with no dish on the rear just drives me nuts. Especially if your going to go inward more with a 10" wide wheel. Just my .02 cents, but it will look tons better on a classic that way.

You would need a 5.5" bs wheel if that 2" measurement is correct.

If you want 5 lug axles you can get the 94-98 8.8 axles. They should be the same length but 5 lug. The 8.8 fits the 67+ better without narrowing. If you are going to use wheels with more backspacing then it might help to have a longer axle.... or maybe I have that backwards.....

The 94-98 axles are .75" longer per side.

You sure ? Aren't they only longer if your fox 8.8 has drums ?

If you're a junkyard guy you can convert to 5 lug axles by using Ford Ranger passenger side axles. They are the correct length and drop right in.

Absolutely sure. SN95's are 1.5" overall longer. My 8.8 came out of a Fox with drums and I put 95 axles and brakes in it.

You use the DRIVERS side from a 83-92 Ranger or PASSENGER sie from any Aerostar.

There was a tech article in Hot Rod or Car Craft within the last 18 months or so where they put a fox 8.8 into a 67. You might try to find a back issue.

Actually, the Ranger is just the oppsite from the early Ford 8- & 9-inch rears. You would need two driver's side axles from a Ranger to put into a Fox Mustang 8.8" housing to make it 5-lug, if using 5-lug drums. [disc brake axles are longer than drum axles].

Fox Mustang 8.8" has equal length axles. The Ranger [like the early Mustangs] has unequal length axles. The Ranger's driver's side has the long axle while the passenger side is the short one.

I've done this swap before on a '90 Fox GT. I used Mk VII 5-lug rotors on the front and (2) driver's side Ranger drum brake axles and the Ranger 5-lug drums on the Fox Mustang 8.8" rear. --this was of course back before the SN95 Mustang and its parts came out.
