friction modifier is not necessary right?

going to working on the rearend this week hopefully. new gears and rebuilding T-lock. i don't have to add the friction modifier do i? i'm looking for maximum traction and i thought i heard of people saying only to put it in to quiet the clutchesd down.

it's in there so the clutches dont wear down as fast and to quiet them down

the rear end started growling in my car after we changed gears...it sounded bad...we added the moddifyier and it stopped

Stop being a cheap ass and save yourself the aggravation of taking apart the rear end again due to burned out clutches,

I use Synthetic Fluid AND Friction Modifier,

Theres a reason Ford makes it and Specifys it to there cars!

that's ok, no harm. "have fun with the rear" you say. yeah, that's always a joy to get the rear set up right. not really looking forward to it.

If you run Synthetics like the Redline you DO NOT NEED the modifer, you also only need to add modifer if the rear end is making noise.

Modifer makes the rear slip, so you don't want to just dump a bottle in....

This is really a who do you trust thing. Brothers tells me that redline does not replace the need for the friction modifyer but some at Redline say you dont need it. So go figure. My best advise is to go with Redline and no friction modifyers and then listen for noise and if you hear it quickly put it in!!

Maybe. But, if you ask FMS tech, they'll tell that they don't say what fluid specs would have to be for the rear-end NOT to need the additive. So, it's your gamble. All Ford dealers would put in in. Again, for $4, why chance it??

What happens is if U don't have enough slip, the carrier will explode !!

Just listen to the rear, if it pops, bang around corners, U need more !!

Clutches stick together if U don't have it !

ok, so what if i rebuilt my T-Lock using this method? for reference-(S=steel, F=friction)

FSFSFSF

and not FSSFSSF as it comes from the factory.

i just got done rebuilding the T-lock tonight. i used the FSFSFSF method. this is the method that i used the last time i rebuilt it and it worked great. maybe i'll squirt a half a bottle in and be done with it.
