Friend's odometer stopped turning, HELP!

Ok my friend's odometer on his 94 GT just stopped turning yesterday. What can i do to fix this? Every other guage works fine including the speedometer. Will replacing the speedo gear fix this? If so, how do i install it? Please lead me in the right direction here, i need help.

motor probably went, mine stopped at 113,000... ttt for ya

Hbk, couple of things it could be, but here is what happened to mine. If you hit the trip reset button while the car is moving, it is hard on the plastic gears inside the cluster, and the teeth end up missing off the gear. Once that happens, the odometer and tripmeter stop working. If this is the problem, you must pull the cluster assembly out, start shopping for a used v8 or v6 cluster, and take the plastic gear out of it and replace. Could be a couple other things as well, but this is what happended to mine. If you need any further help, let me know.

I don't think i've ever done that, but that is exactly what happened. The odometer and tripmeter quit turning.
