From Honda to Ford

Hi guys!

I've been looking around this site for about 2 years now, since a friend of mine with a Bullitt pointed it out to me. So here is my first post!

I had driven Ford for 10 years, then Honda for 10 years. I just traded my 2005 Accord EX Coupe V6 6-speed last week, for a 2007 Mustang GT!

I've been lusting after the S-197 since I saw the concept car in Detroit years back. Life is too short to drive a Honda!

I've had the car for about 3 days now..and I love it! Except...that I noticed the driver's side rear quarter panel has been resprayed. It looks a hair darker than the rest of the driver's side. Evidence of masking can be found in the b-pillar door jamb, too.

I was wondering if any of you have or know of someone who has purchased a new car, only to find out it has been repaired before it was sold to them? Could this have happened from the factory? If it happened at the dealership, do dealers need to disclose such things to the buyer? What are the possible solutions to this problem?

Welcome and Congratulations on the new Stang.

Yes - transit accidents do happen. Just swing by the dealership and ask them to run you a "Oasis" report on your VIN. It will have the repair listed if in fact it occurred after assembly and during transit. If it occurred after assembly, but before transit (a transit loader bumps another vehicle as they are being placed for loading) it will probably be one of those "under the carpet" sweeps that occurs. Not common, but it occurs.

- Welcome to the club. I too drove Ford back in the 80's (Fox body Mercury Capri) and then I drove Japanese and Euro cars for a couple decades and now I'm loving my '06 Mustang GT. Hopefully millions more will abandon their Camry and Accords and contribute to a resurgence of the American car.
- Sorry to hear about the paint issue; I've never heard of anything like that before with a new car.

i know here a new car can have 20% of its worth in damage and the stealership does not have to tell you about it.

LOL...
My Honda's lug nuts were torqued to 85 ft-lbs....I see that the Mustang lug nuts are 100 ft-lbs...

So if comparing nuts to nuts...Mustang still wins!

My stock Accord Coupe V6 with 6-speed manual was rated at 240hp, 212tq...and could do a sub-6.0 0-60 time. Not bad for FWD...and quite stealthy I might add...as the car was pretty much silent in it's stock form.

I'ld rather walk than drive a japanese car, I've allways had fords and jeeps and the jeeps were just toys more or less. These new stangs look so old, it's like having a brand new 68 fastback, ford really hit one out of the park with this one.

I've had many debates about the car I used to drive, and have this to say about it:

My Honda was made in Ohio. 80% of the parts came from the USA. Americans built my car. Buying that Honda put Americans to work, and put food on their table. Honda is actually considered an "American" car because they EXPORT more cars from the US than they import.

I work for a GM client, and there are several vehicles they sell that are not made here in the USA. GM has closed tons of plants and laid off 10s of thousands of Americans, only to open plants overseas and in Mexico, etc. This is bad for our economy.

We need to keep more jobs here at home, rather than sell them off to save the shareholders a few bucks.

I will drive any car that I enjoy and can afford. The Honda's I've owned were pretty much bulletproof and ran like a watch. But they lacked a little something called PASSION. I've always been a fan of the Mustang (owned a 95 GT). I've owned Ford cars for 10 consecutive years (before trying Honda), and now I'm back into a Mustang.

I'm for employing Americans in WHATEVER industry, not just automotive. If the money I once spent on a Honda went back to Japan, and that's ok with me. Because when it comes time to update that Honda plant or open a new one, they will spend that money HERE in America and help those that live in this country. The same can't be said for some other car makers.
