FRONT coil-overs: which STRUTS?

Since I have to take the struts out to install my coil-overs, I might as well replace the stock struts that are in there now while I'm in there. Which struts should I get?

Note that this is only for the FRONT; I am leaving the rear as is.

Note also that the manufacturer says that these coil overs WILL NOT WORK with Biltsteins.

Chris, the strange adjustables are a GREAT strut for the price and I am extremely happy with them on my car and my dad's fox, both of which have coil overs.

my buddie has illumina tokicos and it rides very smooth even at 1 3/4 drop.

by the way what spring rate are you running? he has 300# on a 95 vert.

JFYI- I am running 14" 175lb springs on my 'vert, I have them set at the stock ride height.

I have Strange as well, highly recomended. You get the best of both worlds. Worth the extra bucks.

not sure, they are road race/handling coil overs, not for drag racing.

thanks guys, sounds like strange is the way to go. i need to make sure they fit with these coil-overs, and then i need to find them for the best price.

who sells them for a good price?

Ride height adjustability, lighter than a conventional coil spring and strut setup, many more options for spring rates etc are all reasons to switch to coil overs.

Thanks Paul...I knew you would be the one to answer that

Reason I asked is that IM sure you read where I was looking to change C/C plates.....I may down the road go with some good susp mods when I get the engine at 100% ( ) I was looking at coil overs as a possiblility, hence the MM plates.

WIth coil overs, can I bring the car up enough to allow for a little more clearance with the Xenon kit?

Depending on which kit you go with, you can adjust the height as much as 6" from top to bottom. That should give you plenty of options as far as clearance for the Xenon kit. Adjustable ride height is the main reason I'm going to coil overs. I am now at a 2" drop and I continuously scrape on speed bumps and other minor imperfections in the road.

No problem Rob. Like Chris I went coil overs for the adjustability in terms of ride height. I have a nasty approach angle getting into my driveway and I pretty much scrape at the stock ride height, but the coil overs will allow me to get it as low as I can and still clear. I do have plans though to ditch the xenon kit for one with more ground clearance so I can lower the car some more and get rid of some of my fender gap.

One note about coil overs, they can be noisey. I didn't hear much about this before I bought them but after installing them I have a slight rattle on my pass side when I hit a large bump... after talking to numerous people and thinking someting was wrong with my car, it turns out that most people with coil overs experience this. I have checked and rechecked everything on the car and everything it tightened to spec and such, so its not form something being loose. The car does fell different with coil overs versus standard springs, do your homework before you decide to go this route and make sure its something you feel OK doing.

Paul, Are you still considering the Xenon Whole front bumper?

I was considering ditching my kit in the future b/c of the air flow blockage, but a lot of guys here dont want to see me get rid of it...If I keep it in the future, I may go with the whole front bumper for air flow, and then add a nice hood.

I'm leaning towards the stalker front at this point. I need something that doesn't hang down as low and stick out as far in front. This is the problem I'm having now with the xenon as it hits my driveway because it sticks out too far in front of the car, and the side skirts hit where my garage and driveway intersect as there is an angle there... its so close now that I can't put my finger between the concrete and the side skirt. (that's at my STOCK ride height too!)

Troy (yeahloh95) has his car pretty darn low and he can make it into and out of my driveway (we never tried the garage though) with his saleen kit because the front isn't as low and doesn't stick out as far, and the side skirts are level with the pinch weld and don't hang down 3" below it like the xenon kit does.

did you get the shocks/ struts and the coilovers and springs separte or did you get the threaded shock and spring combo? how much did that run you? I'm looking to get coilovers for just my front for now

Blackvert, if you're setting up a road race car and not a drag race car then maybe you shouldn't go with Strange. Choose a more road racing setup.

Also, if you go with coil overs and plan to really lower your car, go with the Fox struts, they're a little shorter.

This is for a car that is now (and will be) driven virtually 100% on the street.

It will be lowered, probably about 1.5" most of the time, but I might want to lower it more if or when I want to make it look more agressive for pictures or go to a show or something. Or I might want to raise it if I keep scraping on stuff.

So Strange struts would not be good for that?

these coil-overs do not come with struts. i need to get them seperately, or i can use stock struts. maybe i should just put in some new stock replacement struts?

Just thought since you got the Road Race/street springs you were leaning towards that direction. If you're not going to road race then the Strange will be fine.

If you're going to lower your car 1.5", then go with a Fox strut and not an SN-95.
