Front Spring Help

I searched all the treads on drag springs but couldn't find my answer. I have a 67 stang and plan on drag racing it. I have a built 302 and just ordered a 671 blower for the car. I'm trying to get a better 60 foot time. I just installed 90/10 drag shocks but I still have my stock springs. My car doesn't have good weight transfer, so I think it's my springs. Do lighter springs help that much or should I invest money some where else. If I changed my springs would I go with a 4 cyl spring like a 520? Any help would be great. I am setting the car up for drag racing.

use a set of springs from a 6 cylinder mustang. they are a lower spring rate than the stock V8 spring and will allow quicker weight transfer. also, if you havent done it already, disconnect the anti-roll bar when you hit the strip as it will also loosen up the car at the track.

Thanks for the info, should I remove the bar all to gether? Also do I just call any part store and get springs for a 6 cyl 67 stang? Thanks for all the help

your stock springs should be just fine, especially if your gonna add a heavy blower. I would reccomend a set of carerra front shocks if you dont have them.

I have 90/10 shocks by comp engineering. I'm going to get a battery relocate kit but should I buy the 6 cly springs and will they help weight transfer?

i just put 6cyl springs in and -wow, what a difference! i have had a chance to run it at the track with my new mods yet but it does do a lot better in wieght transfer. i have a fiberglass hood,lower valance and aluminum heads and my front end sits a little higher than the rear but i also have 2" lowering blocks in the rear.

with my front tire being 165's on 15" x 4" and 15 x 8 w/ 275/15's in the rear the fender lip is 1" high off the top of the tire in the front. so with additional blower it should sit perfect - equal with the top of the tire.

You could go the cheap route and them from a junkyard.

but at the junk yard you don't know what your getting? Also can I use a spring from a late modle stang? Like a 2000?

unfortunatly they are not all the same. newer mustangs have shorter springs due to the mustang 2 front suspension.

front 6cly springs will work out of any mustang or maverick up to 78. i think!

12sec your car a very nice drag setup. You'd be suprised how much lightening the front of your car will change ride height, even widening the front track with differnt wheels can change ride height and change the effect of front springs.
For some reason I wanna say that stock 65-66 v8 front springs are the same as 67-70 6cyl front springs. But if you have a stock type, non road race spring and the ride height is close to stock then all you really need is a good front shock and maybe double check that there is no binding in the stut rods or ball joints.

i got rid of my 720 road race springs and KYB's and installed 6cly front springs from a maverick and summit racing 90/10's. my front end goes up and down about 3-4" with me pushing up and down with my hands

Damn, now I'm confused. My friend who races stangs told me changing to a 6 cyl spring would do anything to help launching the car, he said by lowering the front end only it would make the weight transfer even longer and harder which makes since. I'm lost, is it worth it to change the stock shocks?

with 6cly springs- they work because.... the coil is compressed at a higher rate of tension under more wieght and when you take off all the the spring pressure releases which makes the front of the car rise. i believe its called "spring rate"
