Hey guys, ive got a 67 coupe and it has 428 big block springs in it... Im putting a small block in (289,302 block). Should i replace them with something like a 620 or take the springs and cut them down to my desired ride hight? If i do cut them down how would it handle, shift weight and all that stuff?

Sorry if i didnt supply enough info, thanks for your opinions guys!

i would go with the 620's, i think the small block weighs a couple hundred pounds less, the big block springs might be a bit stiff.

Yep, I'm with that. I'd imagine your front end would be sittin up a bit as well.
Just curious, why are you going from a 428 to a 302?

The car had a 428CJ in it before i bought it, then he removed the enigine before the sale, couldnt blame him with that engine, and it saved me alot of money for the car without the engine..

Mustangs are better with small blocks in my opionion anyway

620s are a lot stiffer than the factory "big block" springs.

Put the new engine in, and check the ride. Only make one major change at a time.

I have 620s in my 67 w/289, and I like them so far. Of course that's subjective; they are stiff, but the car handles very well.

The 620s are nice, and made for your application. They aren't very expensive, and much easier than screwing around with cutting. I am an advocate of cutting only when there are no other options available.

I would put the new motor in, drive it and see if you like how it feels and looks. The 620s will be a stiffer-harsher ride than the orginal springs. You may want to got with stock replacements or some 540s. Also you can always go with a softer spring adn a stiffer shock

I went with 620s to hold up the weight of the 429 After playing with Mustangs for 20 years I have found it is best to do one major thing at a time.

Cheap indeed, I paid $96 for my pair (that's like what $48 per spring?)

Don't cut, you'll be plenty happy with the results of the 620s.
