dont bother notching the shock towers as there is enough room to install the 460 without doing that.

Seems like you can notch them without changing any of the steering/suspension/braking components. Just don't notch below the UCA mounting point. But there is enough room to put a BB in a 67/68...but just barely.

i want a big notch so i can get a set of 3 inch headers in it and be able to change the plugs with out pulling the engine out. the rrs kit uses a strut mounted to the spindle so no upper control arm heres there gallery on it http://www.rrs-online.com/assets/galleries/notchfit/index.htm

Never used their stuff but from what I have seen in catalogues and magazines, it looks very high quality. NPD carries their stuff now, their price on the notching kit is $194.95 for comparison to wherever you have been looking. Be aware that there is a different kit for 65-66 and 67-70. Their coil over kits start at almost $2500 and go up to almost $4500!!! Ouch.

Aren't three inch primary tubes a little overkill and wouldn't they make changing the plugs more difficult than the shock towers? I mean seriously, are you going to use collectors the size of sewer pipes?

I missed that in reading the original post. My sewer pipe under the house is 4" pvc; maybe he could use that to save money on steel. Seriously, 3" is beyond rediculous and has entered into the "ludicrous" zone.

3" headers even top fuel dragsters dont use 3" header pipes, and they make 7000hp! a 2" header pipe is about as big as you want to go.

You do not have to pull the engine to change the plugs. It is hard, but you can do it.

And there are header kits out there for the exact application that you are talking about. 429/460 in a 67-68 Mustang. Look at: http://www.critesrestoration.com/mustang.htm only $339.

Why do you want to put a 460 in your car?

460

Ive put a 460 with C6 into a 69. If you dont upgrade the suspension, you will be very nose heavy, I know cause I didnt upgrade mine. I also had to do the cut and weld on the shock tower. Its not a problem to get the engine in their, but when you want to put on headers (I did shorty's) you will run into size constraints, as well with the starter.. I also had to "massage" the driver side header to fit with the steering shaft.

With a 460 built right, you should be able to pass anything but gas station.

Big blocks were optional in '67 so its doable. The exaust ports point down vs out to the side like 302s or 351s. Now if you're doing headers too maybe you want to notch something but you don't have to since the 390 was optional.

The FE big blocks not the 385 Big Blocks were available in 67. However, you do not have to notch the towers to fit a 429/460 with headers, it will just be extremely tight in there. It is almost impossible to change plugs on my with just the stock exhaust manifolds.

RRS

I have the RRS Stage 1 on my 65 Fastback. I didn't notch the towers as I'm running a 302, but it would be easy to do. Love the quality and ride of the kit. It's expensive, but works great and no issues with it. If you can afford it, it's a great deal.

So if you get say the TCP coilover suspension kit in a 65-66 you could notch the shock towers to get mega header clearance for say a 351W based stroker?

I would assume you would need to go with a coilover of some sort to notch them right?
