Hi All,
Hope someone has had similar issues. I have a 91 GT Hatchback.
Recently my motor has been making a skipping sound and intermittently isn't raising the window anymore. Also, I noticed the window not longer is closing at the top corner of the door frame, leaving a small gap for annoying wind noise.
I took apart the window motor and replaced the 3 cylindrical bushings. There were flat spots but none were broken. After pressing in the new bushings I noticed the larger plastic gear had a groove worn out where it connects with the worm gear. As it's going to take a week to get that part I decided to install anyhow hoping I could get it to work a little longer.
I loosened the 3 bolts that help align the window assembly, 2 near the front and the one at the top of door panel. Then I pushed the window up until it sat into the corner, closing that small gap. It took more force than I expected.
I then installed the window motor. I went to test it and pushed the button to lower the window and got a loud clunk, window didn't move, and the motor is now spinning freely.
1) Did I bind the window when forcing it to sit fully into the top corner?
2) Maybe it was on its last plastic tooth and the new plastic gear wouldn't have done that?
In case the window gap issue isn't an adjustment issue I've linked a video to the guide bushings as I rock the window. I think they look OK. I notice more play in the top bracket.
3) Thoughts on guide bushings?
4) Is the top bracket supposed to have that much movement?
Thanks in advance.
Bruno

*Edit. Years ago I had the window motor walk off the window gear. I had to loosen the bolts to the window motor to set it back in place. Not sure if this history matters, but thought to add it just in case.
