Hi,

I've bought a set of Ford Racing 3.73 gears for a rather low price (was a group-purchase in another forum). To be exact, the price was around $140 for the gears only (excl. shipping and so on).

The description says, they are the "N-series" - what does this mean? May I have bought a set of low quality-parts?

Okay, thanks.

But - in theory - are there any second class gears available from FRPP?
My garage won't install the gears for me because they won't take the risc of installing junk (it's a guaranty issue in europe). And since they heard the price I paid for the parts, they say, it has to be junk :notnice:

Now I am sitting on a brand new box of FRPP gears and no one around wants to install them.

theres only one set of gears to my knowledge that ford makes period , i have heard of people mass ordering them and getting them in brown boxes instead of the nice pretty white boxes , but if its a white box that should validate any doubts of the quality .. but even the brown box ford gears and the same gears ....

Nope, Ford only makes gears one way. They package and price them differently though. The $140 price is about right for the gears sold under the FRPP or Ford Motorsport name. If you were to go through regular ford (as if getting something serviced under warrantee) you would pay a LOT more for the gears. Same part however.

Best example i have is the old '93 CObra intake (which is now discontinued). Ford Racing used to sell the kit for $399 for upper and lower intake and gaskets. If you were to have the intake replaced under warrantee, it was something like $600 for the upper and $750 for the lower intake separately. Another example are axles shafts. Ford Racing sells an entire 5-lug drum conversion kit for the Fox cars for $180. It comes with what is basically two ranger axles and two ranger drums. Price them out through mainstream Ford and you are looking at $200 each axle and maybe 50-75 a drum.

My point is, Ford Racing parts are usually pretty cheap in comparison to regular Ford parts. They are the same peices but sold under different names.
