I ordered the chromoly oil pump driveshaft from FRPP. Part number M-6605-A341. For the 1979-Up 351W. There must be a specific way to install it, but the guys at the dealership couldnt help. Also, which end does the retaining clip go on? Thanks.

the side of the driveshaft with the retaining clip should be towards the distributor and the other end in the driveshaft. You have to install it from below so removing teh oil pan or moving it is a must if your doing it with the engine in car. Otherwise just put the driveshaft in the oil pump, slide it together in place make sure the driveshaft goes thru the dizzy hole and bolt on.

The reason I asked is because the one "hex end" of the op driveshaft is longer than the other. I was wondering which end goes "up" and if the retaining clip goes on the distributor end or the oil pump end. This thing is mostly round, but has the hex style thing on each end.

You can't put the shaft into the pump with the clip on from the top.....the clip won't let it.....that's the point, it's supposed to be put in from the other way so it doesn't come out with the distributor.
:stupid:

Been there, tried that. Dropped the pan to get it in.

Ok, I forgot to mention that the pan is off and the engine is out of the car. Let me try and understand what I am supposed to do. Short end into distributor? With clip on that end? It seems to just slide onto the hex part.

frpp driveshaft for a 5.0 on the left, stocker on the right. You're probably looks just like the left. Install just as shown in the pic. Put the cup on the long end, then poke the short end into the oil pump
