FRPP Shortie Headers

Hi, I picked up my GT about 3 months ago and have been putting it together.

Right now the engine and exhaust is stock and I want to put an aftermarket setup on my car.

Will Ford ceramic shorties bolt onto the stock heads without leaking. I read they fit GT40 heads and I want to be sure they bolt onto the stock heads before I buy them?

I'm also planning on a Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back and an H-pipe with hi-flow cats? Any recommendations on a brand of H-pipe?

Thanks for reading.

I believe the FRPP shorties will work. That's what i have on my stock heads. But i don't have the ceramic ones. I ran 2 1/2inch exhaust all the way out. Also, for your h-pipe, i run a BBK h-pipe. It was pricey, but better than stock, especially when you need better flow later on with mods. :nice:

You "believe" they will work, and that's what you have on your stock heads

Did you mean, you know?

My BBK 2.5" high flow catalytic convertor h-pipe fit like crap. It didn't want to line up and the LX tailpipes ended up being all cockeyed when I did get it bolted up. I had to pay a muffler shop to rebend a bunch of stuff to get the tailpipes straight, and when I contacted BBK about it, they were largely indifferent. Also, the BBK was quieter than the blown Steeda 2.5" cat h-pipe I took out (and which fit like a glove), which may or may not be better (the cats began to rattle internally, indicating broken guts). It was definitely the BBK that was not bent right, since both the stock h-pipe and the Steeda fit perfectly, with the tailpipes at the right angle. I think the Steeda was actually manufactured by Moreflow, judging by its looks. I probably would not get another BBK.

FRPP headers will fit just fine. If you car is still stock with stock heads I suggest sticking with the factory headers. You WILL loose power if you put on the FRPP's, I can tell you from experience.

As for H-pipe I would go with a VRS catted x-pipe.

Good Luck.

 First time I've ever heard that. They gave me a nice increase in mid and upper range power. They were the first mod I ever did to my car.

I have a Borla aluminized steel (not stainless) catted X-pipe on mine. It was the same price as the BBK and the shop that does all the work that I can't or don't want to (www.bradscustomauto.com) recommended them highly. I've been very pleased with the results.

:stupid: When I bought my SSP (bone stock) the first thing I did was run full exhaust with 1-5/8" tube unequal shorties, a cat'd H and 3 chamber cat-back ..... it rev'd a little more freely up top and didn't choke out for an additional 500 rpms or so. (As is common knowledge amongst those that have played a little.)

Of course I lost a few ft/lbs below 2500 ... but negligible and worth the trade for me. I've heard of some guys losing a few ponies overall as well, but it's the complete combo that will make the difference.

With a stock build, I would consider buying a good aftermarket set with the stock size 1-1/2" primary tubes. You'll keep the backpressure, but flow a bit better than the factory units ... although your future will most likely hold better flowing parts, the trade now is probably worth it in the long run to just go with the FRPP shorties, which are a nice quality header for a street car .... buy once.

Adios

I dynoed my car with stock ported headers, then FRPP 1 5/8" shorties and LOST 4 HP and 6 ft lbs. peak (2 to 3 on both throughout the range). Then I tried some 1 1/2" equal length MAC shorties and lost 3 HP and 4 ft. lbs. So I ended up putting back on my "Ugly" stock ported headers and the power went right back up. This is with a VRS X-Pipe with no cats and Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and 2 1/4" mandrel bent Dynomax Tails.

BTW. the Dynomax were worth 5 HP over my old rusted out 2 chamber Flowmasters.

FRPP will bolt up.They will work fine with any motor upgrade you make...They will also work with the P head..My only suggestion is get the ceramic coating.Ive had mine for 3 years and they still look new. I orginally bought a set of BBK chrome and the quality was very poor.. I sent them back and bought the FRPP shorties.

I would bet your problem was lack of back pressure, not the headers themselves. Replacing the x-pipe with a catted x probably would have given you more power with the headers.
