I was looking at FRPP and saw they only have Short Pipe headers. Why? It seems everyone here on Stangnet prefer the LT headers.

Thanks from the newbie!!

shorties are a direct replacment for the cast iron manifolds that you have now, no modifications needed to install. long tubes are preferred, because you get a better gain. shorties are a waste of $$$ when you consider the amount of power they produce.

Shorties are only a waste of money, if their un-equal length..if you go with JBA equal length shorties, they have a feature called a firecone merge collector, which scavages exhaust gases, simular to that, of long tube headers.....JBA Cat4ward® Headers :: 05-06 Ford Mustang 4.6L 3v V8

JBA Cat4ward® Headers p/n 1675SJS JBA is proud to announce the release of new 50 state smog legal Cat4ward® headers for the new Mustang GT. These new V8 headers feature JBA's standard heavy-duty construction and patented technology to deliver the performance and reliability you expect. Beginning with oversized "D" shaped ports for the new 3v heads and smooth flowing mandrel-bent tubing - these headers open up the exhaust for increased performance and efficiency without compromising the factory emission equipment. Extra thick .375" CNC laser-cut flanges ensure a tight seal and trouble free performance without leaks from warping. Each kit comes complete with quality hardware and instructions for a complete installation. Note: These are the only headers available for the 2005 Mustang GT that are 50 state smog legal. Another JBA first. CARB E.O.# D-216-28

I looked at those JBL shorties and JBL's marketing has them giving a stang 21.3HP overall gains. That is pretty good but I can only trust marketing so far. Thanks for you input!!

i generalized the "shorty" headers. the JBA is a little different. the FRPP, for example, is a true shorty header that is not eqaul length. its a direct replacement for the stock manifolds, like i said. it does look better, but does not offer substantial power gains. the FRPP was the main brand in this topic, so i used them as reference for my reply.

I know what you mean, I was just referring that, as an example to another member and to other members, who may not be aware of, or may not know the difference between an un-equal length shorty and an equal length..As for myself personally, I have no plans on replacing the stock manifolds.. From what I understand, there really isn't that much of a restriction, that would justify replacing them..Maybe down the road, I may go with LT headers, depending on if, there's a huge enough HP. and torque gain, otherwise if not..why even bother ? But on the other hand, if I were..I would pick JBA, there a very reputible company, who does back up their claims, through R&D testing, and research

agreed.. I dont have the $$ for LT's.. but the jba st looks good. I wonder where I can get them for cheap? .. I plan to do 12+ lbs of boost.. On jba's add they also test ti with the full cat back and who knows what else.. I wonder what the real power gain is.. I hate how people fudge on the numbers like that.. but looks like everyone does

I would start out, by getting a dealer list from JBA, as to who may carry their products, in you're local area. Or try places like, Summit racing, Mustangs Unlimited, Steeda, any of the internet speedshops, even try partshopper which is sponsored, by this forum..I'm sure you'll find someone who can offer a good price, on JBA products..
