Please, I need a tip, or an answer if one of you knowledgeable Stangers can help me, heh.
This is actually for a '95 Cougar, I'm hoping the gauge functionality is the same, or similar, it's a ford period so, maybe someone can help.
Anyways, here's what's what it's doing, quite simple. For the last three months, the gauge for some reason read about 1/4 of a tank high, all the time, and would move up or down going up or down hills, which I assume is normal, now, however, it stays way up past full, about half a tank past full! However, the "Check gauges" light doesn't come on. And I know for a fact that the check gauges light, does in fact work.
So basically I've been using basic math to keep from running out of fuel, but always using an extra half gallon. One thing tho, I travel about 80 miles per day with the car, and in the entire trip, usually once or twice, the gauge will come down, and reflect the actual gas in the car, but only to go back up way up again just seconds later.
Do the light and gauge work off the same device, or system, or can I still rely on the light even tho the gauge is off, cause the light seems to work, however I couldn't say for sure...?
'95 3.8 liter, 161k miles. It's actually a mercury cougar, but I'm assuming they're the same, my friends '95 V6 stang seems identical, the gauges functionality, not the engine. My cougar has a lot more torque than a '95 V6 Stang.
Thanks for any input, as my search really didn't lead to anything, I don't like starting new threads over such inept topics....however maybe some of you will understand. Thanks in advance.
