I have a 65 mustang with a 200ci straight six and I'm looking to put a V8 in it soon. A friend of mine has a '90s bronco with a fuel injected 302 that I might be able to pry out. I was wondering if anyone had heard of doing this. is it similar to a 5.0 mustang swap? i plan on getting a a new transmission, and rear end also later.

the truck based 302 will work, but you'll still need the mustang intake manifolds and injection system, plus the right oil pan. The bronco motor has slightly less power, and depending on the year, might not have a roller cam. If you can get it cheap, and the engine is in good shape, you might as well buy it. Just keep in mind all the other stuff you'll have to buy. If you went carb'd, all you'd need is a distributor, intake manifold, and carb, about $400 total. You can spend more than that on just wiring for an EFI swap.

If the 5.0 is a good, preferably w/ roller lifters. engine, Go ahead & use that to start your V-8 conversion. Still lots to do on suspension & brakes. Get it running as a carb version. l
Later if your still interested in FI do that conversion then.
The car I'm installing EFI into is one I'v had for 12 years. After hurricane dammage, it sat for 7-8 years. Engine gone, trans gone , body stripped & interior pulled. There are so many sub systems that are being changed now, It probably wouldent have hurt to have had the AOD & 5.0 running as a carb first & later finish the FI. Now I'm working on all sorts of different areas of the car at one time & not focused on finishing one project at a time.

...Yeah Yeah, I know EVERYONE calls it a motor. ACTUALLY..It's a freaking ENGINE, not a freaking motor. Grumble, grumble, grumble, yadda, yadda, yadda, bla, bla, bla...

Ha, I just noticed your sig, that's funny. If you look up the definitions an engine and a motor are technically one and the same...anyway hijack over. :D

Hey you guys just to let you know I am having trouble with this site but hopefully this time it will post. I am a new owner of a 66 mustang 200 ci. I am getting the body straightened out followed by the interior. Once I do this is when we get into the good stuff though. I know that I need to upgrade the control arms, spindles, and just in general all the roll bars and I will get a standard suspension upgrade package for the front. Than tack onto that this Granada conversion for front disc brakes that I hear about. Once I do this I am going to get the rear end off a explorer I guess that has disc brakes hopefully and rear suspension package and so I will have 9 inch rear on the back. Then last but not least I want to upgrade to 5.0 crate engine. EFI. And the thing I think that will make it truly put my touch on it is the t-56 transmission. I want to have a sick six speed tranny on it and that is the most obvious choice. I hear it is pretty standard except that you need to shorten the driveshaft a little bit for it to fit right. Just another problem is that it is an automatic but I hear that that is not too hard to do. I am a newcomer to this whole stanger thing so if you guys can help me out with this it would be nice. I really have no clue what I am doing so if you guys can help me out that would be awesome. Thanks

Yes, you can use the Bronco engine, but I would change the intake, cam, distributor, and computer to that of the Mustangs.

The Bronco engine is a Speed Density, Bank Fire injection system. Nothing wrong with that, it works fine, but the MAF and Sequential injection system is better for many things. You would have to change the cam because of firing order. You would have to get a distributor with the TFI on it (that has a steel gear for the Mustangs roller cam). You would have to get a computer to change the firing order and fuel injection firing order.

Well good luck with the converstion, I will post some Links so you can do your own research.

Well I know that was alot of URL'S however you can never have to much information....

One of the most criticle parts you will need is the clutch pedal and brake assembly.. and I happend to have one the pedals are in good condition however the bushings where the pedals ride on are starting to wrap. but you can use your old assembly to mount the pedals... That what I did, I also did the V6 to V8 converstion

Let me know if you want to purchase the pedal assembly I will sell for $100.00 plus shipping you can reach me @ [email protected]

thanks
