Fuel Line Removal?

Hey everyone. I am putting a walbro 255 fuel pump in and am just wondering how to get the lines disconected? I have the retainer clips off already. I was trying to get the lines off by bending the inside clips with a screwdriver and pulling them apart, but I dont want to bust anything. Do I need any kind of tool, or what is the best way to get them apart?

You need this:

It's a fuel and A/C line removal tool. There are a couple of different variations including one that looks kind of like a set of metal pliers. The metal plier version sucks. Go to your favorite parts store and tell them that you need a set of fuel line removal tools.

You should only need to take off the rubberish lines at the back of the car near the tank if you are doing a fuel pump. Just take the plastic clips off them and pull the rubber line off the metal line. Should slide off pretty easy once you get the white plastic clips off.

Those tools daggar is showing are for the fitting at the engine bay.

your right those tools won't work for taking off the fuel line at the fuel pump.

I have to agree with Daggar as I just bought a Ford Racing Fuel Pump and it came with new external Rubber lines and the one has a strange internal push clip that would need to be undone with Spring Lock Tools.

Yep... my bad. Wrong end of the fuel system. Perhaps what he's saying then, that once he removed the clamps that the lines were stuck?

If so, twist them loose with a pair of pliers then they should jsut slide off.

Take a good look inside the Fitting and you will see an O Ring and then the internal clips that keep pressure on the metal part of the line, the only way to disengage them is to use one of those white tools as it slides in and prys the internal clips outward.

Double check to make sure that all of the plastic clip came out. They can become brittle and have a nasty habit of leaving a leg in the fitting, preventing the lines from seperating. ...a small flat screw-driver is all ya need.

Can anyone show me how to use the tools in the second post, i need to remove my fuel lines to take off the lower intake and i cant figure them out! thanks.

The clip over the fuel line on the motor side and then slide into the fitting. If you can see that side of the fitting, there is a spring in there. What you're trying to accomplish is to get that spring pushed out so the fitting will come loose.

May I also suggest a cheap Chiltons or Hanes manual? They have detailed pictures that they took right out of the Ford Factory Manual. It will help you with the visuals. IMHO reading how to do it doesn't come close to pictures.
