ok I took my old tank out and have a new one to replace it, but they told me I should use my old pump so I swapped the pumps, that hole in the tank has sharp ridges and during the swap, one of the wires got cut so i taped it with electrical tape. will it hold or will the fumes break it down, Im hesitant, and even then, all the wires and the hose from the pump on the inside is so bulky and too long, they rest on that ridge when the fuel pump top plate is secured, it seems that after some time it would start to frey the wires, and this one place i dont want a spark. its no different than the other fuel pump, they are the same lenght wires and everything, also im thinking that ill just keep the pump that was in this tank (it was from a junkyard) the tank was still wet inside so its not like it dried out and got all sludgy, do you think this junk yard pump would be fine, its from an 04, and it couldnt have been sitting tooo long I wouldnt think. It seems like just such a bad design on fords part, to have all these wires rubbing against metal and I know im not doing it wrong, the wires and stuff are kindof preformed in that they will only really go one way.

The electrical tape is going to fall apart right away. When you fill you tank it is almost to the top and the slosh will hit everything. (Think of a fish tank in your back seat half full. It will slosh itself empty in normal driving.) I suggest tanking the pump out and getting some electrical shrink wrap. The black hoses that shrivel when you heat them.

you can swap the wire from the junkyard pump and reuse your pump. you can remove the red clip inside the connectors. then you can remove the pin from the connector and swap the wire terminal ends and all to your pump.
wow actual engineers visit this place, im so sick of goin to other forums with 15 year olds trying to answer the questions. ok so basically I can use the newer pump out of the salvaged tank but the guy said it might be gummed up, it looked fine though. like I said the tank still had some gas in it so it must have been pretty fresh. The wires are bundled up with the accordian like fuel hose, it just seems odd that these wires and hose seem to rub up against that razor sharp ledge. thanks for the input.
Get a 12v source and hook it up with a bucket of gas. I did this to check my old stock pump vs. my new 255lph. Huge difference in output!mjjstang said:
