Fuel tank sump, is it supposed to be loose?

Just replaced/upgraded my fuel pump to a 255, the sump in my fuel tank is loose, Is it supposed to be? My new pump wouldn't go in, because I couldn't get it in the sump, then I noticed the sump moved, and I was able to move it and make the pump go in w the filter sock in the sump.....

BTW walbro pumps are no more, thet are TI now the parent company.....careful where you buy one many counterfeits, I got mine from Advance for $70

Since apparently nobody here knows, I got this over at Corral:
Nope - I lost mine at an autocross event. Took a tight corner at speed and the liquid pressure wave took out the pump hanger and pump killing the motor. While I could still hear the pump it wasn't pumping anything. Required a whole new tank.

When I opened the tank the sump was in one corner and the hanger was just suspended by the wiring.

You mean the baffle?

Nope, they are supposed to be welded to the bottom of the tank. It's very common for them to break loose. If you have a full tank of gas and rock the car you can hear them bang around. New tank time
