Quick google of dragon fire distributor looks like the same pos rich porter casting copy every one sells now just with a red cap and base lol. Get a cheap cardone reman on fleabay and a new pip, I had like 40 in the last one I rebuilt buying old stock from ebay. the China made ones use bearings that seize, oem has no bearings, its bushed, not hard to reman if you can find decent electronics for it, old stock standard stuff is what I try to buy if I can find old motorcraft since everyone's cutting corners now on then newer stuff even ford.

C. So another chiknee part. Noname tfi and white color pickup.

And guess what? I finally got a hold of speedmaster/ pce supposedly a Cali. Company. That sells speed parts. The distributors they sell are overseas bull also.

It really sucks when you are willing to spend for an OEM quality part but are forced to choose between the junk that is being sold.

As much as I'd like to blame the retailers, it's not their fault. 95% of the population only wants cheap. No other considerations. So that's what retailers stock. Until that trend changes it ain't gonna change.

Well I'm up against the wall. I need my car as its my daily. Wife's been more then patient getting up early to drive me to work.
I got the warrantee from O'Reilly's so I can get a third distributor from them today which I may do, or I can install the dragon fire one I received yesterday.
Either way I don't see them lasting long. I have that old original bronco distributor that Im in the middle of swapping gears,but I'm having a problem drilling out the new gear ( bits won't go threw, I need a carbide bit ) that might be an option. Fugg fugg fugg.
Do I pull the trigger on a performance distributor? Over $300 but made in USA. Where does there pip come from? Are they worth it?

Ive heard good and bad things about performance distributors...personally i think you should go with the cheaper option first. Although what does a carbide bit cost these days lol. Maybe someone can offer you advice on that

Having to drill the hole in the first place, makes be wonder if it's a press-on.

If it were supposed to have the hole I would think that it would have come drilled already particularly, since it's carbide.

So, I question the whole drilling thing. Not certain that is what is supposed to happen.

The cast iron gear it came with , I removed the pin and pressed the gear off, then the new Steel gear from Standard comes with only one hole and instructions to drill out the other side once its pressed onto dist.shaft. I got the new gear pressed on and its lined up perfectly ,just need a drill bit that can cut threw the Steel gear.

Oh p.s. noobs , thanks for the ads but I got one locally ( the bronco one) and there are more within driving distance I just want to have one good one and a spare. I'm capable of replacing the pip and tfi , just can't find n.o.s.ford parts , I've seen made in Mexico pip's online.

I feel your pain man,we are all going thru this stuff,i have a set of Autometer gauges in my 91 below the radio and im super happy with them but awhile back i put a new engine in the 91 and (to me) it was a huge investment and i have a electric fan so i started getting paranoid about the fan going out and not noticing the gauge cause its all the way down there so i decided to reactivate my dash gauge so i could have 2 gauges.

Granted the dash gauge is not the most accurate but id rather have something than nothing so i decided to buy a second T housing and drill and tap it for a sensor at my work (i work in a machine shop) so i bought one of those knockoff housings, holy crap those things are junk, i returned it and took a trip to my local salvage and found one,it was filthy, a quick sandblasting and a little paint and good as new, pure old "back in the day" Ford quality .

Same story with the distributor, decided to get a new cap while doing a tuneup so i just ordered one from eBay, Chinese especial, so i get it on a Saturday and go install it and it wont fit!! I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong? so it turns out the caps diameter is smaller that the OEM mid part that goes below it, ha ha ha, car parts have a size standard like lets say a door, doors are made in certain sizes and those sizes are part of a standard home building code, i guess the people that build the cap just dont think thats important,lol

I had like 5 old caps at home and i just picked the best one and put it on, guess what? it fit!

I wanted to add since i just remembered this but i also had a wonderful experience with 2 (two) gas tank sending units back to back, my gauge had gone south so i dropped the tank and installed a aftermarket Chinese sending unit,the float disintegrated so the gauge stopped working again so not only did i have to replace it but i also had to clean out my tank,right after that i started having these weird issues where my inertia switch was getting mighty toasty and the car would cut out and act strange.

I traced it to the tank and fuel pump,the pump was sucking the proverbial golf ball thru a straw in turn making the rest of the system work like a dog,those tiny particles from the first and second sending unit float had saturated the sock rendered it useless,i am including some pictures for your viewing pleasure,i ended up picking up a sending unit from Autozone (Spectra) and its been fine ever since,I'm sure Spectra is also Chinese but ive had a decent experience with them.

Both of these sending units were bought from our go to "speed shops" that we do business with all the time.

I put this in today? I figured if it works till I get the old ford one drilled and back on ill be ok.
It fit tighter then the O'Reilly's ones did and the TFI actually worked. Starts and doesn't hiccup, drives and doesn't stall, so off to work it goes with me Monday. Ill give updates daily. Staying home, calling off work, I gotta relax my old ass.

Milwaukee is a subsidiary of TTI, whose corporate headquarters are in China. Doesn't matter where a Milwaukee tool is made, the money goes to China.
