Fuel pump questions

Well went through another inline fuel pump on an 84 SVO. For some reason the pump in the tank is ok but the inline one gave up after only a year.
My question to you guys is this. Can I just get a in tank pump from either a 86 SVO which does not have the inline pump and just run that one? Maybe even one for a 5.0 I believe it should all be the same mounting. Any suggestions.

ive seen a couple guys do the convertion to a single intake pump (usualy a 255lph pump). Check out stingers site ,see if he has a how-to on what needs to be done. Pretty sure its simple.
