It doesn't happen all the time......only sometimes.

If I take take the car out of gear and coast say to turn into a driveway or something, sometimes I hear this "tap...tap...tap...tap" noise from under the car. It sounds like a small hammer tapping on a piece of metal.

The trany it's self functions just fine.......

What do you think?

I get a weird noise, it scared the **** out of me, I was on the highway and when I got up to around 190 Km/h this sound came up, it was as if there was a piece of metal stuck in my tranny just banging itself against the interior part of the tranny, cause it sounded like a very fast banging , pretty loud.... Then I just put neutral and the noise stopped.. I stopped, put drive again and continued driving and it was fine (although I kept it under 170 Km/h) Id appreciate any help guys... Thanks....

Oh yeah, and its an automatic tranny

Ok, one more question, does it speed up if you hit the gas? My '89 BMW 530 had a similar problem, it was the throwout bearing, it would only make the sound in neutral and it would speed up if I gave it some gas. Like proportionate to the RPM.

Mine would stop if I pushed the clutch in, however.

"Mine does the same, it has something to do with the clutch or so the ford tech told me"

So did he tell you it was nothing to worry about? Or did he suggest you get it fixed?

It doesn't particularly bother me.....because it doesn't do it all the time. But if it's a problem that will get worse I will flex that warrany muscle and make them do something about it.
