Garage upgrades

Haven't been around much lately, been working on the garage. Just finished the last of a 3 layer epoxy kit. I actually had enough to put down two clears, and two UV layers. The pictures don't do the floor any justice it is pretty amazing in person. I will be able to get all my stuff back in there in about 7 days. Once I have the car back in there and all the other stuff I will get some more pics.

I have some other minor painting to do as you can see, a little more trim to put up, and the she will be finished. I planned on heating the garage this year so I could work on the car through the winter.

First pic is of the acid bath. Had to get the floor clean, and all the cracks sealed up. That was the most work of this project.



This is the finished product. Still wet, but looks good.

Yeah, I did it myself, took 7 days total cause you gotta let it dry between coats. It is only supposed to be 3 coats, but I had enough material for 5 coats. It took a day to prep, and then 1 day per coat. Total with dry time is about 12-14 days. You can walk on it a days or less after each coat, but they say wait 7 after the last coat to dry before you drive on it.

I bought the industrial epoxy kit at home depot, and then had a friend order commercial grade top layers. He has done many garages like this, and they have all come out amazing, so I figured I would give it a shot.

1 2.5 gal semi gloss grey epoxy kit $108.85 (acid bath kit too.)
1 5lbs bag of flake $25.00 (not enough in the kit)
2 ER041 LOW V EPOXY 1.5 GAL KIT $174.00
2 CG090 ACRYLIC POLY UV PLUS 1 GAL $170.00(strong smell)
Shipping and handling $57.96

Total $535.81 plus a few rollers and cheap brushes for the edging. I think total it was right under $600.00, but worth it. Should do about 500sqft or so. I had enough to do a 2.5 car garage, just didn't have one.

I bought two of each of the clears, and could have easily done it with one, that would have saved me $150.00. Too late though, I am extremely happy with the results though.

Whats up JT, I am hoping it holds up for a while. Like I said, this is the same process that my buddy in San Diego has been using for year now. He swears by it, but you never know. I got an estimate to have it done, and almost had a heart attack at $3700. I decided to give it a shot.

I would love to get somewhere where it doesn't rain so much. I think I may have put less than 600 miles on the car this year, and next week it will going back into storage.

No, one of my co-workers did that, and it started to peel after a year. If you read into the HD kit, it tells you to seal it with another product from the same line, but HD doesn't sell it, and they can't order it. The warranty doesn't apply if you don't use the whole system. I chose to use different products, better IMO.

I would at least get a clear UV coat to go over it. You may need to go as much into it as I did, but I plan on living here for quite some time, so I don't want to have to do it again.
