gas mileage

my 302 seems to get horrible gas mileage. i know theyre v8s but this is bad. Also my cars runs out of gas at a little less then a quarter of a tank or at least loses a lot of power and misses in first and second gear. Im using 93 octane always, its the best i can find where i live. (when i take the gas cap off it sounds like a lot of air pressure is released, is this normal) any ideas?

How are the spark plugs? Change your fuel filter? When it misses is it under a load? who are the wires?

just got new bosch spark plugs but probably need new fuel filter though, whats best brand for filter? wires are only 8mm not sure of brand, came with car, they seems allright though.

Fuel filters ford or what ever you can get at your local parts store. At night lift the hood and see if the spark plug wire are arcing(light show) it has to be really dark. You say your car misses is it under a load(heavy acceleration)? Or just when you low on fuel?

My car gets a lot better gas milage now that i can drive it. Clean your MAF.

Unless you've advanced your timing, start using 87 octane gas. No need for 93.

Bosch spark plugs? What kind. I used to use the platinum or whatever special ones they had, but found more success with the plain ones.

Bad O2 sensors? May need them replaced. If you've got plenty of miles, consider getting the fuel injectors cleaned (not the fuel additive) and possibly clean the MAF.

what i would do: pull codes.
what milage do you actually get? dont run out of gas - it kills pumps. some cars have a lot of vac in the tank (hissin when cap is removed). check the cannister and its purge valve and lines for faults. good luck.

no not under head load, only normal 1st gear starts. It does better once its warmed up. I also have an ald batter and horrible terminals, about to replace cables the whole way. MAF been cleaned recently. Yes bosch platinum, changed about 3 weeks ago. Getting the codes pulled as soon as i fix a connection. Ill get back to yall, THANKS (car needs lot of work as we can all see, recently purchsed, 96000 miles on it.)
