Gas pedal adjusting by adding block

Has anyone tried to just add a rubber block to the gas pedal to raise it up an inch? I would imagine there are some add on custom look pedals for sport look, but would that raise it up enough? I have seen the other modification listed here, but was thinking of something simple, easy to reverse when selling the car. Seems like the gas pedal is really buried in there. I was thinking even an inch would help. Anyone catch the edge of the brake when trying to move quickly off the gas and over? Another question, is this something which started in 1994 Mustangs - the low gas pedal?
Thanks, Loren

My '88 has a real low gas pedal too.. doesn't bother me.. just less travel til it hits the floor. Never heard of anyone using a rubber boot to make it come up higher.. why would you want to make it take longer to get the pedal all the way down?

No the distance traveled is the same

The distance of travel on the gas pedal remains the same. My concern is that the lower gas pedal makes it harder to get off the gas and on to the brake. It should be even with the brake. Would make it possible to heel and toe, but that is not the issue in this post. People are placing spacers under the gas pedal, which I assume works, but seems like you could error in doing right, and that attaching some plate or pad over the pedal would be both quicker and easily reversable. To me it looks about 2 inches low, but even an 1 inch higher would help. Some of those add-on jobs to make the pedals look racer may work. Was thinking one could just add to the gas and not the others, but it is not too much of a height difference. Oh well, no big deal. Just seems so odd that certain cars have this buried gas pedal. It has to be something to do with a law suite where some idiot hit the gas and not the brake one day. A little lower is the norm, but so far lower is odd. As for comfort, it helps stretch out the leg more, while getting closer to the steering wheel, so for us short armed people, that is a plus. Only the safety of too much time in moving first way up, then over to the brake is what I was thinking about. SO you have an '88? I had the '85, but not a V8. Just not enough power, and I did not think it was handling too great, so I moved on. I guess some mods on the suspension would have helped a rather tepid handling.

I'm guessing the gas pedal sits lower to prevent those with fat feet from pressing the gas pedal when they meant to press on the brake. Remember the cases of runaway cars back in the early 90s? *shrug*

The gas pedal cable spacer is a really simple mod and is really easy to undo. However, you could pick up some pedals at Autozone and zip tie them onto your existing pedal. That will be quick and dirty. Heck, get a white board eraser from Office Depot and zip tie that one on.

The runaway car syndrome nearly did in poor ol' Audi. They could not replicate that action to prove Audis drove themselves, but who knows. I suspect it was just wrong pedals. Probably was close between the gas and brake on Audis back then. In Europe they use the stick shifts more, and thus the clutch, so heal and toe may be popular too. Not they really separate the gas and brake. Looks like the 2005 Mustang does have a somewhat higher gas pedal again. Someone listen to customers.
