For a couple of days after the last few times I have filled up my car, I can smell gasoline when I get into the car, sometimes strong enough to need to roll down the windows to vent it out. The smell goes away after the car gets down to about half a tank. Any thoughts on where I should look, I am thinking maybe the fuel neck.

I had this issue right after I replaced the fuel pump in my '91 - BUT - it had nothing to do with the grommet or the fuel pump. Coincidentally enough, the fuel lines run under the driver's side (think that's right) and one of them had rusted through and started leaking. Check that also.

Re: gasoline smell

+1 on the rubber donut gasket where the filler tube goes in the tank. I had to replace mine. Same symptoms, gas smell in car. If you look closely on the right side of the tank you will probably see the sign of evaporated gas or it may even be damp, mine was. Dealer said it was not uncommon on Mustangs.
