Does anyone have directions for an 8.8 gear change, or a link to one. Hopefully from a Ford manual, with the torques and preload info. Got 4.56's waitin' in the garage.

My book is on loan to someone for an aod install.

Thanks.

4.56s?!?!?!
holy flkwflk!

Well anyways, take off your rear cover
pull take off your wheels/drums
take out c-clips by pushing in axle shafts
take out the shafts, pinion pin and s-spring.
Take off carrier bearing caps making sure you dont mix them up.
Pull out the carrier
pop the ring gear off.
Put the new ring gear on after cleaning it.
Make a tool to hold pinion yoke in place while loosening pinion nut. (i drilled 2 holes in a piece of flat stock steel and bolted it on.)
pull out pinion.

well i have to go now that should get you started ill come back later and finish hopefully.

Thanks, I found the motherlode on the Corral site. About 16 pages.

Yes 4.56, only because I don't dare run the motor over 6k.

When I fix that problem, I will step it up. Makes it easier to get up the ramps onto the trailer.

I may have missed it in that right up, but I'm going to mention it anyway. Just as you keep track of the carrier caps, also keep track of which side the carrier shims came from. If all of your pre-disassembly measurements were in spec, you'll probably be reusing the factory shims for the carrier and the pinion. Good luck.

yeah i used all factory shims on mine. Just check your contact pattern with marking compound and make sure youre right in the center of the tooth. Grab your dial indicator and set the backlash to spec by moving the carrier side to side with shims.
