My mechanic is really good with Ford's but i dont think hes ever did gears before. he told me it would be alot of money to install 3.73's cause he has to rebuilt the rear. he said like 700.00.

My question is If i buy the following:

Ford Racing Gears - FRPP 3.73 Gears

Motive Bearing Kit (8.8") (Install Kit)

8.8" Ford Trac Lok Posi Clutch Kit

How much should this all cost to be installed?

find a mustang shop, Jake Lomatta did mine for 250, like said before 200-300 is average price. I would NEVER let someone whos never done gears before do it on my car, theres alot of measuring involved in it, and it should be done right.

That's good to know when I need my gears done. He wants 150$ to do subframes on my car so I figured he was pretty expensive. 250$ for gears though is good.

Ill never take my car back to Jake Lomatta, and I wont say NO ONE ever go there because I dont hate them like that. But theyve screwed me over every time ive taken my car there and dont have ANY thing good to say about them. They do good work, but they take money from you like its nothing. I wont even begin to describe how theyve screwed me over :nonono:

Cost me a 6 pack of Corona to get mine done. I think I got ripped off :(

Well your really damn lucky. see if i have people that like that i could give beer to to do my work that would awesome but none of my friends no how to do this sh it.

again any good mustang mechanics in the Rockland County, NY area.

It cost me 300 for labor, gear oil, speedo gear install, seal up the diff cover, set up the gears, and rebuild the trac-lok. All together before I put axles in it it was 625 bucks including the parts I bought (including axle, carrier, and a few other bearings, etc., the basic gear stuff) and I bought a good set of mosers for 180 to my door since the factories had grooves worn in em from the axle bearings. All together I had around 900 or so in the rear end.

I put a set of 3.73's in my mustang that I had from my f150 when I upgraded to 4.30's, total cost was about 10 bucks and my time. I would say 250 to 300 dollars is a fair price to pay a shop to install them. Different regions of the US charge much higher labor rates compared to others.

Also how much usually for a REAR MAIN SEAL?

rear main seal is a PITA because you have to drop the exhaust, tranny and flywheel. Probably 400-500 in labor to replace a $20 part.

As for gear install prices...i purchased my own FMS 3.73's and had a shop local to me install for $175. Came out perfect
