I am about to rebuild my trak lok i just bought the kit from steeda today. I plan on adding the clutch plate for more break away torque. I was wondering what type of oil should i use. I thought i remembered someone saying not to use friction modifier because it to make the clutches slip. Oh yeah I will be road racing the car so I need the rear end to stay cool and last as long as possible til i can get a new diff. thanks

I use synthetic gear oil + the additive. but I forgot to put the additive in on thurs when I changed gears.

I use the same. I use mobil 1 with friction modifier. I have auburn posi.

You're right about the FM lowering the coefficient of friction (and many road racers omitting it).

I'd choose a nice synthetic and see how it does without FM (FM is easy to add but impossible to remove).

You'll note that with the synthetics, many of the lower weights (75W-90 etc) have FM in there already. But the heavier weights (85W-140 etc) often do not have FM. Considering the low temp characteristics of synthetic 85W-140 compared to dino 75W-90, the fact that you're going to road course the car and that later 8.8's came with synthetic 75-85W - 140, it might be worth trying out.

I tend to use Redline because the local speed shop sells it at a decent rate.

I use Amsoil synthetic gear lubes in all my cars and they do not require the additive. They do make an additive if one is needed that is compatible with synthetic and petroleum oils.
