gear selection help

ok i know the gear questions been beat to death but bear with me. i was goin to go with a 4.10 gear to work with my 94 gt. this would work with my t-5, gt40 heads, explorer intake, full exaust, and nitrous. i will probably be in the mid to high 12's with this combo and 4.10's . BUT in about a year will be ditching my nitrous for a d series procharger. i am concerned that the 4.10 will be too much for the blower. im not a blower person so i dont know. ive heard there is some things that the 410 dont allow the blower to be in the power band or something . i dont want to swith the gears again when i do supercharge it. plese help me decide

No...do fear the gear...it is okay and use common sense here and go with "money smartness" here...do you want to have the gears changed twice as you asked? You don't want to extend your rev-limiter, that is not smart and is unneccesary with stock heads/cam and bottom end and probably for the better you don't touch it.

Especially with the blower I think you will want 3:55's and no more than 373's...

Here is how I look at when picking gears for a daily driver...To me the gearing of 410's or steeper on a daily driver is not worth it to me...you get worse gas mileage/more engine wear/and use your shifting components more (clutch/trans/etc)...around town...and I also look at it like this...when your cruising on the highway at 80mph (interstate) your cruising at roughly 3000rpm with 410's...that is HALF your 302's revving capabilities and that is in the overdrived 5th gear at CRUISE...not at WOT...I personally don't like the idea of having half the engines revving capabilities at just cruise. Also...what if an emergency comes up and you got to "get it"...you have to be there for someone or are running to the hospital...and running higher than 80mph...maybe running 4500rpm steadily (faster than 80mph of course)...during that emergency I don't think that would be a could time for your engine to let go on you...what do you think?

Then you have to factor in 410's or steeper cause my engine braking at higher rpms on the highway...go pull out somewhere and hold your car to 2500rpm or so (worse with gears) and feel the engine try to slow you down when you let off the gas...same similar occurance happens on the highway/interstate plus the wind resistance.

I know when I had the slipping clutch problem I could smell the clutch burn at a higher rpm cruise which in my case was comparing 2000rpm to 2500rpm. At the lower rpm I didn’t smell it but the higher rpm I could smell it. Just some things to think about when you think you want every little tenth out of your car (4:10’s)…I prefer a better overall performance personally…

Good Luck with your choice:nice:

im thinking 410 would be real real nice for what i got now right? if it does make the most sense i will do 410 now then after the blower go 355. but dont u think i need the 410 now. 5 gear, 90 mph=2000 rpm. no joke.

373's will put you at 2000rpm at 60mph.

I wouldn't do it...that is silly IMO. Your going to need to change it and you will see how great a difference the 373's will make. HUGE!

They would be fine or go with 3:55's for assurance.

The 373's will get you upwards of 110mph in the quarter mile which is about where the Procharger will max you out at with the stock h/c/i.

3:55's isn't a bad choice at all and will be a nice gear to have with the blower...:nice:

well i dont have stock h/c (check my cardomain) and i will get a custom cam with the blower. i think i will most definatley do 3.55 with the blower.

but, wont 410 be an awesome gear for my mods now?????
id consider shanging them now then doing them again with the blower and build the rear end at the same time

i think i do want 4.10 but still undecided but i dunno

I wouldn't...not cost effective or worth the trouble...

when u say cost effective....
-if you mean gas, i dont worry about that.
-if you mean y do them and change when i go supercharged, that may not
be for a long time

what exactly you mean?

That is what I mean...so now it is going to be a possible "long time" for the supercharger

It was a year in the original post and plus you have nitrous which is a poweradder as well...

It appears you have your mind made up...get what you want...

i would like it to be a year. but i go off to college next year so i dont know what is goin to happen financially, im sure you can understand  . now that i look at things the blower wont happen for a few years unfortunatley.

so, sorry to schange things up, but what do you suggest for my combo now?
iron gt40's
explorer intake
24's
nitrous
et streets for the track

Trust me I know how the college budget works now :bang: :)

I would suggest 373's personally if that car is your daily driver. If not go witht the 410's to squeeze out another tenth or two...
