Has anyone heard anything about Gear Vendors Underdrive/Overdrives?

I have a new C-6 in my 1967 Fastback right now. The main reason I want it is that I can keep my RPM up with my powerband range(there is no reason to have this much horsepower and not be able to use it.)

The purpose I believe is the Gear Vendors Underdrive/ Overdrive is that you have speeds 1st – 1st Overdrive, 2nd – 2nd Overdrive, 3rd – 3rd Overdrive. Basically this gives you 6 speed out of a C-6. Am I right here?

Do you think this will fit in my car?

They make them for C6's, you have to shorten your driveshaft I believe.

They are pretty big dimensionally and they are pricey. A buddy of mine was considering putting one on his Galaxie. It wound up being cheaper to have a hardcore AOD made

man,

for $2500 you can have a bad ass 5 speed or a REALLY NICELY built AOD!!! Probably save you a lot of headache of installing one of those units!

Yeah I looked at the gear venders deal but I decided to go with a Tremec instead. Way cheaper and I'm sure the same amount of cussing for the self install.

I spent $2000 buying my badass AOD only to have it break in 500 miles.
I spent $2200 rebuilding my badass AOD into a badder ass AOD only to have it break in 1000 miles
I just spent $1000 rebuilding my badder Ass AOD and have put 300 miles on it so far without incident.

I wish I had bought a race ready c6 and a gear vender set up at this point. It would have been cheaper and more reliable.

My bas ass AOD has one piece hardened input shaft, 4r70w internal, extra clutch packs, had a transgo shift kit (now it has a B&M shift kit), had a supped up valve body (now it has a more stock valve body), kevlar bands, oversized OD band....it was supposed to be tits.

Man... were those custom built? Were they Lentech's? If not, you might check out www.lentechautomatics.com next time. They've got AODs rated to 1200hp, with a LIFETIME WARANTY! Their unit rated to 700hp is right at $2300 I think... Just a thought...

If I could, (I've got a little piggy bank just for it) I would. They are 2250 for a 2-4. It certainly isn't the cheapest thing, but how freakin cool would grabbing six gears be?!?!?! I would freak out if I heard someone do tht next to me.

That's who my buddy went with. He's got about 525 hp and close to 600 rwtq. They told him to "try to break it". He hasn't broken it yet

Pretty damn cool I'd say

Keep in mind with the GV unit to do 6 gears you would have to alternate shifting both the trans and the GV unit.

My Lentech Street Terminator was $2,300.
Windsor-Fox kit was around $500(?)
Labor to install it and adapt the reverse lights and such was $425.
I went this route because I didn't want to spend the time gathering parts and also I didn't want to mess with hoisting up a transmission in my garage with nothing but floorjack and jackstands. If I had a lift and more time, I would have tried doing everthing myself. Also, its nice to have some sort of an installation warranty in case something happens. Normally I do all the wrenching on my car, but sometimes you just gotta let someone with more experience tackle some things.

Yeah, but when I talked to them it was very easy they said. Once you want to shift into 1 overdrive, hit a button(on shifter maybe ?), Shift it into second gear and the GV automatically disengages. Or you can put it OD and it will only go into OD at a certain MPH. And they are rated to 1200 hp in stock form. WELL WORTH THE TROUBLE NO ?
