GearHeads Help Me Out - Exhaust ?'s

Whats up guys know you are all full of good info so hoping to get some good feedback. I've had my 06 GT for about 6 months and the time (and money) has come to beef up the exhaust system to make to roar.

I've done alot of research but still have some questions. I am looking for 'classic mustang' rumble from my exhaust but I would also like to see a 7-15 RHP gain. I am not sure if simply a quality axel-back would accomplish this or if I need a whole cat-back system. Second question is what is the diff between a normal cat back and a straight sport back sound/performance wise?

Hope you guys can help me out.. Im looking at either Bassani's, Borla's, or the MagnaPack

Long tubes, o/r H and stock mufflers. If you don't wanna spend that kinda money, O/R H and pypes violator mufflers OR Prochamber+Mac axle backs.

I know that I know more than this, but what does O/R H pipes stand for? Right now all of the pipes are stock. Not looking to do any headers or anything up front at the moment. Willing to spend about 500 if I can get the right HP gain as well

Cheap= pypes o/r H and pypes violator axle back
Less cheap= prochamber+mac AB or
super loud, not so cheap: O/R H and FRPP stingers.

They are Bassani mufflers. The sound is spectacular on them, unlike any other muffler out there, and the only reason I am wanting to sell them is because I wanted something louder. I went with a straight through muffler so I could make windows rattle

Yeah the Bassani's are nice, especially with the X. I have mine sticking out a bit more so it looks as obnoxious as it sounds. Quiet Mustang is an oxymoron to me.

Did you notice performance gain with the Bassani's AB's? Were you running them on an X or H pipes? I'll be on the stock H pipes. Let me know and then I'll contact you and check on what you want for them

Also.. still havent seen an answer on this one... what is the difference between the straight sports exhaust vs the standard axel-back with muffler? Is it just louder, or it for performance as well? can you run straight backs on an H, or only on an X since they are longer?

You will not feel any gains from just swapping out mufflers. If you were to dyno you car before and after a new set of axle backs, the gain would be minimal if anything at all. Where you will see the biggest gain would be from a set of long tube (LT) headers and some kind of offroad midpipe. Although from what I have read, X pipes tend to yield a few more horses than Hs.

As far as chambered vs. straight through design, I really couldn't tell you if one is any louder than the other, but from what I have experimented with, chambered are quieter. However, the only chambered mufflers I have tired were the Bassani and MAC mufflers. Straight throughs definitely sound better when combo'd with an o/r X pipe, as a chambered muffler will sound tinny/raspy in certain RPMs. The only exception to that rule that I have come accross is the Bassani mufflers. Zero raspiness when I ran them with my LTs and o/r X. Not sure if a straight through muffler would give you anymore power over chambered though. And when it comes to what midpipe to run them with, chambered or straight does not matter when it comes to a midpipe. Just so long as you stay away from a chambered muffler and an o/r X pipe.

H pipes= deep sound
X pipes= not as deep, but much louder
Prochamber= very deep, but not as loud as an X

What is the difference between the sets that are the mufflers and tips vs the ones with the pipes as well. Do those need to be swapped from the stock mustang? Or are those the X and H swaps

I have the Bassani Axle backs and they sound awesome. I get compliments on the sound all the time. If you want it to really have that classic rumble I would go with the Bassani axle backs and an off road Bassani x pipe. The off road x really gives it a mean tone. The bassani tips also fit great out the back. Just a warning the off road x will make it a lot louder.

Not to hijack the thread, but...

I too am looking for an exhaust upgrade. I have read pretty much everything there is on Mustang exhaust (there's even a website called mustangexhaust.com), but I'm still unsure which one to pick. I'm only interested in an axel-back upgrade at this time and not concerned about horsepower gains (I'll get those some other way!).

From my research, it seems that the Loudmouths are pretty popular. Many people also seem pleased with the Corsa exhaust, but there's some who say it's too quiet at idle. Bassini has their fans too, but there is supposedly a drone at a certain RPM level. I really would like to avoid any kind of drone (which makes me lean towards the Corsa, which supposedly produce no drone).

And then there's the FRP exhaust, which might just be the way to go for its simplicity. It says it's not legal in California... haha... what wankers!

Anyways, I know this issue has already been beaten to death, but I would welcome any and all opinions on which way I should go.

Well, nevermind, I guess!

I just ended up ordering the FRP M-5230-GTA from Ninosport (thanks to this thread: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=665830). Really good deal.

I was intrigued by the M-5230-5GT (Stingers), but the price on the ones I got was just too good.

This is probably just a first step for me though. I don't think I'll end up like Midnyght and put 1,001 different exhaust set-ups on my car, but I don't think this will be the last word on exhaust for my GT.

I'll let you know how these sound once I receive them and put 'em on.

The exhaust sound from the inside of the S197's is MUCH different than the previous body styles due to muffler placement. The reason we are having a difficult time getting the old school sound is because the mufflers are much further rearward in the new style(directly in front of the rear bumper). The others have them in front of the rear axle which puts them up under the rear seat. Standing outside my '06 sounds not much different than my '00 did with the Flows.
I have noticed on video clips on the net that there is a slight sound difference between different exhaust setups, but still mostly sound good. So if "we" are swapping out many different setups for the way they sound while we are IN the car...try being outside while a pal drives it by...if you can bring yourself to do this...
My g/f WON'T drive my car so I can hear mine...she doesn't want to hurt my baby...LOL.

I have these, and they sound good, but aren't much louder than stock.

I can't really hear them when driving normally, which might be good for some people, but I wanted something a "bit" louder. I'm thinking a high-flo midpipe would make them sound much better.

Headers, Pypes off-road H-pipe, stock mufflers.

Sounds great at start-up/idle (a little louder than stock but not much) and is great for cruising as there is ZERO drone. Stomp on it and it really opens up though.

I'm currently looking for Axle Backs though...probably go with Pypes Violators but I don't know how loud they are...and I want LOUD. By LOUD I mean "make your ears bleed" loud. Any suggestions?

hobo, if u want ear splitting loud get a straight through design like SLP or Borla stingers. I'd suggest pypes though.
