what trans do you have? I have 3:73's in my 88 with a t-56 and personally because 1st thru 4th are so close together I've been thinking of switching to a 3:55 gear. I run about 2100-2300 rpm cruisin around 70 mph

With the AOD I'd throw those 3.73's in.

there literally shouldnt be a first gear. Its absolutely pointless, as soon as you take off you have to shift.

On an AOD, especially if staying n/a, I wouldn't do less than 3.73. At least not on a car with a stock torque converter. With freeway rpms being a concern you wouldn't want to go much higher than that. If I had a higher stall (like you do) a 3.55 might be doable. The car wouldn't be such a dog off the line.
