I have an 06 gt (auto) dont like my small gears....... want to go with 3.73 how much do yall think it will destroy my gas mileage and how much will I feel them from my 3.31's..... ive already ruled out 4.10 and up

06 gt coupe, windviel blue.....c&l with custom preditor 93 tune.... bmr adjustable lower control arms and relocation brackets

Everyone I know that has an auto and hasn't gone with the 4.10 gears wishes they had. You can't be that worried about your gas mileage, as I see you have a preditor tune for 93 octane. That is unless you drive A LOT of highway miles, then I would go with the 3.73's.

Someone else posted recently that they lost 3mpg with the 4.10s...not sure about the 3.73s, but probably not much more than 1mpg. I'm doing the debate myself because I have a round trip of 60 miles a day...I'm thinking maybe 3.90 gears.

i put in 4.10 gears last week to go with my auto tranny. i drive 80% highway miles (50-80 mph) and i am averaging 18.2 miles. I have driven about 250 miles since the gear install. I can honestly say i have lost only about 1 to 1 1/2 mpg tops. I don't drive with a light foot either.

hope this helps

I went from 3.27's to 3.73's in my '96 GT auto. Gas mileage didn't change at all. It held steady at 20 in town and 26 on the highway. If you're a racer, the 4.10's might be a better bet. But, the 3.73's made a big difference for me.

I don't think I am going to mess with gears in my '05 only because the last guy who knew what he was doing with Mustang differentials left town. If those gears are put in by somebody who doesn't know what they are doing, you can be in a world of hurt. My only suggestion is, that whatever ratio you go with, make sure they are put in by a person with Mustang (OK, actually Ford 8.8) specific experience.

One more thing. When you first put in those gears I can guarantee that you mileage will suffer because you are going to be opening it up about every five minutes to get the feel. Check your mileage after about a month. It won't change very much.

3.73 vs. 4.10 noise???

I am trying to decide between 3.73 and 4.10 myself with a 5SPD. Did you notice much noise from the gears when you went to 4.10? I don't do it often but now and then run about 120MPH, have you and do you have any complaints? Do you have any complaints about 4.10 at high speed at all (high speed = 70 and up)? I ask because I had 4.11 gears on my Camaro and they whined a lot at anything above 70MPH and made 1st gear quite short. If I have 3.55 now is there any point in going to just 3.73? I think not but am not sure. Thanks a lot for your help as always.:hail2:

i had the ford racing gears installed and i haven't had a problem with any whining. The speed shop that did the work specializes in mustangs. The owner of the shop use to work for ford for over 20 years. Now, all he does is mods and drag racing with his older kids. The fastest i've been with the gears is about 110mph with no problem and i generally cruise around 70-80 mph also with no problems.
