picking up some 4.10s for the 91 and am looking for a good shop to install them, theres a few mechanics around town im considering but whats a reasonable price to install the gears?

Yes if a full rebuild is being done the gear set is off or partially off so the cost is little...just time to properly set up the depth of the new gear set.

To have the Gears swapped you'll be in the $200-250 for labor, plus gears $179-$200 and I would supply them a "gear set-up kit" so you have all new bearings, etc.. $100. It's a good time to install new axle bearings and seals if you have any issues or leaks. I personally install and recommend the Motive or Pro5.0 gears (made by Motive), or the Ford Racing are my second choice.

I have found some other guys just swap in gears using the same shims that were in the stock housing, while this may work it is not the proper way to do them. The new gear set must be measured and set up all new, this will ensure a long, quiet rear for many years.

Like Rick91GT said, buy the gears and the install kit yourself to save a little $. I have never had a problem with FRPP gears. My last install was 3:73's a few years back. They charged me $400, but I also had them tighten up my posi pack while they were in there. Another expense to consider is the speedo gear. I think 4:10's are still able to calibrate with the speedo gear. That calibration cost me another $100 but having an accurate speedometer is huge! Having your gears properly installed is one thing you don't want to chince out on. Nothing worse than gear whine or an improper install. Find a professional, and pay to have it done right! If you have 2:73's or even 3:08's, you will LOVE your 4:10's!

Night and day difference. You'll be pleasantly surprised for sure, don't be surprised when your back tires are bald though. my first gear change was in my 88 coupe, 2:73's to 4:10's, when i picked the car up, I could believe the difference it had made. 2nd gear pulled like first gear used to!
