Gears installed.....Speedcal not though

I got my car back today from the installer. He installed the ford 4:10 gears.I asked him about the odomiter and speedodomiter be redone and he told me i needed a chip.....i couldn't use a speed cal on my car.I have a 2002 Gt 5 Speed. Is this true? From all the posts i was reading on here i was under the impression that i could have used the speedcal to reset my speedo and odomiter. Can i use the speed cal on my car? Will it reset both my speedo and the odomiter?Or do i need a chip? Thanks Shane

A speedcal won't reset your odometer or speedometer, it will compensate for the gears and prevent the "ghost" mileage from occuring anymore. You can also adjust for any aftermarket wheel and tire combos you might get in the future.....

Brother's advertises theirs works for 1996-2004 5 speeds. Dallas Mustang has one that will work with 96-98 autos. If you have a 99+ auto you have to flash the computer. I just happened to install the Brother's speed cal today on my car. Not a hard job at all but I did go to Dallas's how-to to see color pics for the install. Much easier to see what you are doing than trying to read a photocopy that comes with the calibrator.
