Gears installed

I just got my car back from having FRPP 4.10’s swapped out in my 01’ GT. I had them install a Motive bearing kit along with a Tracloc rebuild kit. Now ONLY under deceleration above 40 mph it will make a soft wirling sound coming from the rear in 5th gear and sometimes 4th. If I drop it in neutral or accelerate, everything is fine. This sound normal?

Only other mods to the drive train are a aluminum flywheel from Frodanza (if thats how its spelled) and a Centerforce DF clutch.

If the bearings are all new, they're probably not set up correctly or the pinion preload is incorrect.

ive heard that the higher gear sets do generally whine or whur a little more than lower ones. maybe there is a break in period before they quite down. also check the fluid. im sure others will chime in.

I called the shop that performed the install and they want me to bring it in after I put 500 miles on it. The'll replace to the fluids and check all the spec's, backlash etc. Bad news is that won't be until April when I start driving her again...but there cool with that so we'll see

Sad to put the stang back to sleep. Damn winter

500 miles isnt a lot, i would go ahead and drive it for a weekend and put the miles on it and get it fixed soon. Thats just me though.

A small amount of noise is normal, but not much if it was done right.

I would, except I live in NH and dont want to run it on the road anymore untill they clean all the salt and sand off. I'll take it out in the spring and see whats what.

Maybe it is normal like parrish5o said. I could just worried about nothing.

You should not have noise.. the pattern is off. they are going to have to recheck and adjust

BTW, the more the car is driven with the pattern off, the less likely it is that the pattern can be corrected and the noise will go away. So when you do pull it out in the spring, make that decision quickly; don't rack up the miles hoping it'll go away or thinking you'll get back to it later.

i payed $375 plus the cost of the gears and bearings, guess what? i got raped, i tore everything down and redid it all again by myself. i was pissed the guy told me that it wasnt his problem, he installed what i brought him, and yes it was all brand new parts. now with almost 60,000 on the gears not a problem yet. on top of that the guys no longer in business, and good to that... p.s. i had to do it because they wine horrificly under acceleration and decceration.

I'm a little curious. Did you have to enlarge the holes on your pressure plate in order for the fidanza flywheel to fit?

So I just got the car back after having the fluid replaced in the rear. They checked all the specs and said its all where it should be. Think i'll cut my loses and bring it to a local speadshop where i should have gone in the first place. I dont have any of the dial indicators or i would attempt to adjust it myself. ohh well, live and learn I guess.

Sounds like the clutches are too tight. We are having the same exact problem with a friends 03 mach 1. Brand new carrier, carbon fiber clutch pak, new frpp 4.10 gears and it gets a whine only under deceleration. Will be taking it back apart tomorrow to see where its off. We've taken it apart twice and no luck so far. We did two rear ends that day, one was perfect and this one makes noise. It just happens sometimes. And sometimes the gears do have a bit of whine. Usually once u've driven them and they are broke it, the whine will not go away as its wore into the gears.

So I eneded up paying a performance shop in Hudson, NH who knew what the exact problem was when I described it. I was told there was no play on the pinion because the previous shop tightened it down all the way so there was no play. This then was wearing down the gear. I had them install a new 4:10 and its quiet as a mouse....Lesson learned, always go to a shop who knows rear ends. Ohh and it only took them a couple hours. Thanks for all the responses
