Are new gears supposed to whine after getting them installed?

Not properly installed maybe they over torqued or under torqued the nut on the pinion.

They might have shimmed it wrong too... It could be a few things... Take it back to the shop and tell them to fix it for free since they f'ed it up... If they say it should be like that they are ing you

They will probably end up telling me "it's supposed to sound like that." or some S**t.

So I should bring it back and tell them to fix it for free? I don't think he'll do it for free though.

oh yeah do you think it could be the bearings?

Maybe not demanding for them to fix it for free... Go back and be nice about it. Say my gears are whining which is not normal, is there anything you can do to fix it? Then if they say yes, ask how much and if they give you a price... try to talk them down or out of it since its their mistake and not yours. If it was the bearings you'd probably feel a slight vibration... the whine is from an improper gear install... Something not torqued right or shimmed right. Its a PITA, trust me. Sorry to hear about what happened, hope you get it all worked out.

Go back and tell them that after the install you hear a whining in the rear end. Tell them you called the manufacture and asked them if this was a normal operation for them to whine they said NO. That way you can eliminate that lame ass line “Oh that’s normal for them to whine" They probably go back and check the spec's for free. Good luck

Chances are they put to thick a shim on the pinion gear. When the pinion and ring gear are too close 'tight' then you will get gear whine. So, yeah take your Stang back like everyone here has stated and do what wytstang mentioned above.

Well guys I finally went back to the performance shop today about the gear whine.I tried to do it earlier but either the guy wan't there or he was too busy.Well anyway he said that the gear whine is normal and that it's just a "harmonic" whine and that's normal for those brand of gears.

Also, he had a speedo gear for 4:10 gears and he installed it for me right there and said the speed should only be about 3 mph off.Well I went and tested it against my fathers car. It read 45 when I was only going 40 mph so thats 5 mph off. When we got to speeds of about 55 -60 mph I was about 10-13 mph off.Is it supposed to be that inaccurate?

I called to guy up and he left and won't be back till monday.

What kind of gears did you get? Also, the speedo seems to be right on for 4.10's. You're never going to get a perfectly accurate reading by just changing the speeds gear.

To get your speedo to correct you will need a SpeedCal from Dallas Mustang which wil correct it electronically. The only other way to correct the T5 is to swap out the internal 8 tooth gear with a 6 tooth and then use a 20 tooth external gear. This is what the '03 FRPP catalog says on page 132. If you have an automatic, FRPP does not recommend the speedo gear swap because the internal gear is machined into the tail housing. Must be a major PITA to get to it. I still don't buy the whine from the rear gears as being "normal". Hope it doesn't lock up on you. Good Luck.
