I know, this question has been answered plenty of times but Im getting gears in about a week and need to make my final decision. I was at first going to get 3.73s because from somewhere i heard thats the best for an automatic stang. Now im being told that 4.10s are lol. Someone clarify this with me. And whats the best brand name to go with because there seems to be so many.

Gears made from metal are by far the best ones to get.

I have an auto with 3.73's and love them, I would recommend them. Also, most places use ford racing gears (or so I've heard), so I would get those.

4.10's for the auto, since our automatic trans have a wide gear ratio 4.10's will really get you moving through the power band and into he next gear just fine. Since you are doing gears get the SCT or Diablosport tuner to adjust the speedo and set your shift points becasue the stock shift point will have you bouncing off the rev limit, i have mine set at 4900rpm and it will shift at 52-5400rpm

I have 4.10's in my Mach 1 5-speed and wouldn't have bothered with 3.73's myself, because there would have been relatively little change from the stock 3.55's with which it was equipped from the factory and I knew that 4.10's or 4.30's was what I wanted. We also have 4.10's in my wife's V6 automatic, originally equipped with 3.27's from the factory, and they have been among the best mods done with either car.

As far as brand name, I would recommend FRPP (Ford Racing Performance Products) gearsets.

4.10's for stockish auto if you have a tranny cooler/shift kit to take advantage of it, otherwise 3.73's or the heat created from spinning at higher rpm's for longer periods of time will burn up the tranny.

That's what I'm running. I figured it would get me great gas mileage on the highway and wouldn't be an issue with the gobs of torque that the 4.6 makes down low.
