general help with carbs

Most race engines are well over 100% VE. For example a nascar engine is at around 130-140% VE if I remember it right, but the engineers really have to come up with "black magic" to get it up there because to get the VE over 100% on an n/a engine is already an accomplishment, now imagine 140%. normal street motors are at around 75% and the average modded motor can go all the way up to 95%.

Scoob, dont rely on that ram air to make any positive boost, its might reduce the amount of vacum but its not enough pressure to make it into positive manifold pressure (boost). Still good for a about 15hp at high speeds though.

You also need to pick up a "how to build a race engine" kind of book because they normally have some good tips. Go to barnes&noble or borders and look them up. $20 worth on a book like that can be worth a lot more to you when the engine is complete.

i know ive stoped by and read most of the how to make power books ford, gm, bmw there all very similar . and the butterfly set up im going with will be able to get some manifold pressure mybye only 1-3 psi but with a good cam that has a hungery scavengin afect and higher rpms will put me over 100%. nascar uses a very hungery cam and a ram air affect off the high presure spot at the base of the windshield at extreme high speed to get 150% VE you need close to 7psi. Just remember the power my mustang makes 244whp 290wtq(stock heads and cam) all because i put parts that match well togeather on.

do you think the 850 that nascar uses is stock? i have decided that i will go with a 750 with the motor and i will have an a/f ratio meter in the car so the can see if i need to jet it or somthing later

Read the plugs and jet it accordingly, use a power valve that is well below your vacuum @ idle and you will do ok.

Yeah, thats as accurate as liking your thumb to predict the weather!

BTW nascar motors have to make 140% VE in the engine stand on the dyno. Not at the track.

In any case if the car is going to be used to sustained high rpm racing, then you should be looking into an ITB setup like this.

Dunno, look it on TWN Induction but they make it for the windsor, the FE, SBC and BBC and so on.

If you want a 2000 dollar intake set up call hall pantera or the pantera shop, etc they can hook you up with a webber manifold for a C that could be used in an individual runner design.

Also remember the C is a dry manifold, so for that much money, you can just as easily make your own.

The spider intakes out of Australia are superb for racing (thats what they were designed for) and with the hundreds, and hundreds of dollars you save, you can buy other go fast goodies.

Just a thought...
