yes you read correctly.....i went down to the shop today, and the frame is totally bent out, and everything is nice and straight.....so today and tomorrow he is welding in all the little tabs and stuff, taking out dings, and grinding down the bumps in the engine by, and friday is the final assembly (fenders, hood, front bumper, sideskirts, moldings, etc).......so friday afternoon i get to go pick up th car....$1600 later.........ill be a happy man when i get that paid off........also im gonna be a lil rice for a few months cause i cant afford the $1400 DOLLAR LASER RED PAINT...........JUST FOR THE FRONT CLIP.........MATERIALS ONLY!!!!........so ima have a laser red car from teh doors back, and rio red fron teh doors forward.........

Thats awesome man! But, $1400 for laser red paint???? Thats insane! I had my entire car painted for $1900 including supplies/labor, and I just painted my engine bay for $100.

yea dude the guy at the shop told me that its a 3-step paint and that the only color paint that is more expensive than that as a stock color right now is some cadillac pearl....it was rediculous......

The pearl coat must be why it's so high. Mine was painted in a 2 step process instead of the tri-coat.

well i dont know what they were talking about then....apparentl they have changes the formula for teh paint 3 times because it was so bad with fading....they had the original laser red introduced in '94, they changed the formula in '96, and tehn again in '01...then since it was such a hard color to match, ford just decided to discontinue it, and go with redfile instead........if you could get me a lil bit of info on your paint that'd be great man thanks

Laser Red Is a TRI-COTE...Which is a 3 step process. Paint, metallics, then clear I belive?

I think the guy that did my hood/bumper got one that is all mixed in one then sprayed a clear so a 2 step process. It doesnt match 100% but no one besides my self can notice. Also red is hard to match, even harder to match then red is metalic/peral red. Im pretty sure he did, doubt he did tricote. But he did say it was the most expencive paint he has bought. He just does little private/side jobs.

I'll get the info for my paint tonight after work. I know it has pearl mixed in with the paint, so maybe he just combined the last two steps like 91LX_5L said. I don't think it matches the factory color perfectly, but it's really close.

i was told back when mine was in the shop it would be 3200 to do from the doors back. Of course that is sanding it all down and putting the right primer on the plastic parts (bumper) so it doesn't crack and flake like it is now. Mines 2 differnt colors i don't worry about , it pisses me off that its like that but at least i have my car.

glad you getting it back

thanks man, i went down to the shop today and he had all teh body panels on so i could see teh difference...its DEFINATELY noticible, but at least i will have teh car back again.....its been a long ass month, and i hope it never EVER happens again......so tomorro when i get teh lights, i bring them down to him, because he wants to put em in, and aim em and such, and tehn i pop the car on the trailer, then when i get it home, put in the rad, hoses, overflow tank, and a few other little things......then i gotta get a smog pump pulley, and then im rollin!!!!!!!!

You could just get a smog delete pully from from summit for around $50. Or I might be able to find my old smog pump laying around if you need it....

Here's all the numbers off my paint, I hope that helps.

I didn't buy the paint, but I think it was around $30 for a pint. And I think clear was around $80 for a gallon. All I know for sure is that my friend painted my engine bay for $100, 1 coat of primer/sealer, 2 coats of laser red, 1 coat clear.

I'll look for that pulley this weekend
