getting 4.10's.... how do I counter the top end loss?

I have looked everywhere and it seems the 4.10 are the most liked gear around. But I was wondering how I might recover any top speed i might or might not lose with this upgrade? I am not looking to spend a ton of money right now. I already have CAI and i will be adding Bassani pipes along with the gears and a tune. Thanks for your help!!

Automatic or manual? If u considering forced induction later on u may want to go 3.73. From eat I know and ready forced induction and 4.10 aren't the best together. Tires spins alot and hard to put that hp to the ground

I havent thought that far ahead yet. The next thing I was considering was cams and a new intake. But I dont want to do something now that will really limit what i do later either. From what I have seen my GT comes with 3.55 stock and most people say if you dont go up 2 gears its not worth the $. your take on that? And I have a manual.

Go with the 4:10s....It depends on what type of Blower you run. Roots type...4:10 too much....Cent. Charger it works great...helps you out of the hole. I run a Procharger with 4:10s

Id say go with the 4.10's, if you want to go turbo though a 3.73 would be best, itll build boost faster than a 4.10

i drove a 07gt with the 4.10s , it had the auto trans, with a high stall converter, and vortec, it was amazing, very little tire spin, it just flew.

yea 4.10s arent bad with a centrifugal supercharger like that vortec or a turbo that kinda has to spool up first but with something like a kennbell or roots style blower thats creating that hp and torque right there soon as u gun it youd spin like crazy with 4.10.

but since u haven't thought that far ahead man and all u have in mind so far is an intake and cams then make sure the cam is supercharger friendly for later down the road.

Truthfully I would have said stay with the 3.55s and do other performance mods. The 3.55s aren't a bad gear. I can spin first with out issues, get a big chirp out of second and I even chirp third sometimes.

I run 4:10s in my 2011 Gt w/automatic. I don't know what sort of top speed you are looking for but the car still has substantial speed even with 4:10 gears.The two top gears are O.D. and car would probably run out of power before you ran out of RPMs in 5th or 6th. You can compute the theoretical top speed.

The only way to regain the top speed you lose with new rear cog's is more HP and more RPM.

I don't think you'll have a problem. My car runs 1950 RPM @70 with the 3.31 gear. Doing the math, a 4:10 would run 2415RPM @70. Do the math again, and you'll find a gear limited top speed (using the 6700RPM limiter) of 194mph, which I doubt you would ever go even if you had enough power (which you won't without adding quite a bit of boost).

I'm totally with this.

OP, what year is your stang? I ask because the 05-06's came with 3.55's, but they changed em up in later years. In 07 I believe they dropped em to 3.23's (or something), and then 3.73's with the newer models. I love my 3.55's because they allow me to do different things. I track my car (road course), play around on the street, take road trips, rip around a mountain road or two on the weekend, and drive her to work once or twice a week.

It's all subjective, but relatively speaking the 3.55's give me great gas mileage, acceleration and top-end.

I know a LOT of people love the 4.10's. Not knocking em at all. People love em because they allow you to accelerate faster, and that's what people want in a street car going from light to light or from 20-60, 35-80, etc. What is your driving style? Any of what I mentioned above? Do you DD your stang?

Honestly, I'd go with an aftermarket, one-piece aluminum driveshaft. That will get you faster acceleration, slightly better gas mileage, and will actually free up a few ponies at the wheels. You won't lose any top end.

However, to answer your original question: remove the rev limiter with a tuner, or have a shop do it. This will allow you to reach higher RPM's, therefore higher speeds. Just keep in mind that we don't have "import" motors that are ok with 8000-9000 rpm redlines.

I run a 4.30 and there is no top end loss at all, i dont know why there is this misconception. It just multiplies movement faster. My car will still do 145 or 150 wherever the hell they shut off at.

4.10s SUCK for highway pulls. At least they did in my auto. Stomping the gas a 70mph was embarrassing after I swapped out the 3.31s

The stock gears sweet for highway (high speed).... you still get huge pull
at say 90/100 mph.
